Happy Birthday!

Harvey Ball was born 7/10/1921
(died April 13, 2001)

He was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism at the Battle of Okinawa and invented the Smiley Face in 1963 for an employee relations gimick. The free-lance artist was paid $45. Later he owned an advertising firm.

         Give a little giggle, grin a little grin
          Do your imitation of a Smiley Face pin
          Open up your heart and let the sun shine in
          Then share it with your neighbors and your next of kin (2x)

Ball further contributed his genius to the advent and growth of World Smile Day® on the first Friday in October. It was supported by his International World Smile Corporation. We're not clear the Foundation long survived his death but many communities still celebrate it. [We used to find it at Text & notes - Tune]
