No matter what you may think of the U.S. involvement in Iraq this song embodies something upon which we can all agree. It was written by Sandy Andina and performed by Andina and Rich. It is called "Safe Home". click here then click on the song title to listen.

For whatever reasons I seem to be having trouble making the link work.
Go to http://www.stephenleerich.com, click "Music", then click on "Safe Home".

The music directory URL needs the file designation .html on the end, Stephen. Click this one, eh? :-)

Stephen Lee:

That's a beautiful song, all right. I would love to hear the Mama's and the Papa's sing it in their rich wide-spectrum harmonies.

Definitely a keeper!!

Lovely picking in the intro. Wonderful lyric. Beautiful arrangement; nicely recorded; strong singing. I think this could offer an effective singalong chorus.

Some people (not I) will have trouble with the word "praying." If another word could fit the line ("pulling"?), it might be even more likely to result in indentification with the song. Other than that, I agree that this is a song on which people can agree; it definitely fits in this rural community I'm in. I know that chorus would bring a lot of effective, healing tears, and draw people closer no matter what their politics might be.

I'd offer it to the Hopeful Gospel Quartet at Prairie Home Companion; their material has a similar feel and Linda Williams sings in a similarly strong and clear style. That might springboard to an appearance for y'all-- you never know.

Hey, Stephen: You're right... a wonderful message. Only comment I could add is that I struggle at times to catch all the words. Sandy's voice is very strong, for the most part. But, there are times when I feel that the instrumentals are too much up front and compete too strongly with the vocal. When Sandy is singing in a lower register, and particularly on the chorus, she has plenty of power to ride over the guitars.

Maybe this is the inherent limitation of MP3's, but you might check the balance between instruments and vocal. (the instrumental backing is fine, and fits the singing well..)

Very very nice, Stephen! The song and the lady are definitely "keepers"!

As I was listening, I was scrolling down the thread, mentally composing my comments. When I got to Jerry's comments, I was confused...I thought that somehow I had already posted what I was mentally composing!!

Ditto and underline everything Jerry said. Everything is fine except maybe the balance.

Thanks for the heads-up, Stephen!

I shall return to your page and give more ear to more music!!

Thanks to all. Jerry and Ken, you're right. Fortunately, that's not a final mix. THAT will happen a week from Tuesday (the last session for the whole CD).

Amos, that's a wonderful thought. It hadn't occured to me, but there are places for the classic, John Phillips, counterpoint-within-counterpoint style of harmony in there.

Susan -- The Hopeful Gospel Quartet... Hmmmmmmm....

cat -- I'm glad that you liked the website, too.

I returned to your site and wandered round a bit. It's a very well designed site, easy on the eyes and the brain.

I listened to all the music and I must say that I am impressed! That's some good music there, Stephen. Both you and Sandy have very good voices.

I have never really been a fan of yodeling, but I did enjoy yours. It fit the context of the songs. I did not get the sense that the song was written as an opportunity to show off your yodeling skills, but rather, the yodeling was there to embellish the song. I like that.

Good site, good music, good singing & good writing.

Thanks for the link!

Ken
