11 Jul 05 - 12:40 PM (#1520042) Subject: Tech: Posts listed out of sequence in threads From: Genie I've just noticed that in some threads the list of posts at the top of the thread has a lot of the posts out of sequence. E.g. this one: this thread. (I first noticed it in the thread about Jimmy Davis and "Sunshine.") Not only is the list out of sequence, but the posts themselves sometimes appear out of chronological order, as in the "Sunshine" thread. A post made in July will appear after one made in August of the same year, followed by one from earlier in July, and then one from October, etc. (This can make the 'conversation' very difficult to follow!) Is this just a tech glitch, or is there some "preferences" setting or something like that that I'm missing? Genie |

I'm certain Max is aware of it; but has not yet figured out how to correct this and a few other problems that arose at about that same time, (such as double photos and double birthday announcements on the Members Photo & Info pages. |

11 Jul 05 - 06:28 PM (#1520337) Subject: RE: Tech: Posts listed out of sequence in threads From: JohnInKansas Crudely observed, in threads where posts are out of sequence, the "first post" usually seems to appear at about the 6th to 8th position or so. This may be helpful when you need to sort things out, although I haven't run any statistics on it to determine whether it's always that way. If you really need to figure out a long thread, you can copy the list at the top, paste into Word as "unformatted" (Edit | Paste Special | unformatted text), and sort the list on the date/time columns; but that gets tedious unless it really matters. You have to do a bit of "dressing up" of the pasted text to separate the columns for sorting. In longer threads, there appear to be some places where "out of order" posts sort of "cluster," but I haven't tried to see if there's a general rule for where it happens. John |

When site admins tell me the hiccups are over, I'll re-organize whatever needs attention, but till then I don't want to edit/tamper with any of the posts in this thread. I would hope most of us are following that approach? Joe Offer, 'zat right? ~Susan |
