16 Jul 05 - 01:35 AM (#1522466) Subject: Lyr Add: THE MUSIC OF HEALING (Tommy Sands) From: GUEST,AMC Is it this one about the guns of thunder? The Music of Healing (Written by Tommy Sands - A song of hope for Ireland, written for the Peace Accord in Ireland in 1998) I don't beat the drums for they frighten the children Don't sing me songs about winning or losing Sit down beside me, our green fields are bleeding Sing me the music of healing Sing me a song about a lover returning The darker the night, the nearer the morning Sing me a song about a new day that's dawning Sing me the music of healing Chorus: Ah ah the heart's a wonder Stronger than the guns of thunder Even when we're torn asunder Love will come again Sometimes peace is like a hare in the cornfield You know that she's there but you can't put your arms round it All you can do, is follow the footprints Sing me the music of healing I never knew I could be so contented To learn I was wrong after all of my roaming I've learned to be hard But I've learned how to tremble Sing me the music of healing Somehow the cycle of vengeance keeps turning Till each other's sorrows and songs we start learning Peace is the prize for all who are daring Sing me the music of healing If time is your friend For it cures all your sorrows But how can I wait for another tomorrow One step today and a thousand will follow Sing me the music of healing |

18 Jul 05 - 12:40 PM (#1523348) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sound of the Thunder by Fureys From: Wolfgang Uwe, no help yet, but could you give us the first line or the first lines of the chorus? The Fureys often change the titles of the songs when they pick them up from others. I guess the reason is they do not intend to pay royalties. There are many such instances in their repertoire and the song may be known to someone here but not under this title. Wolfgang |
20 Jul 05 - 12:32 PM (#1524380) Subject: Lyr Add: THE SOUND OF THE THUNDER (Vic Mutch) From: Schmiddy Parts of that song I don't understand. It's a song about Horse races Here the words: Chorus: Heard the sound of the Thunder, I heard the sound on the earth Heard the sound of the Thunder, for who's on the Turf. Verses: I saw you at the ...., in the County Kildare where I've ............. with your long black hair. Then I saw you on ...................................... I knew a beautiful Cup it was waiting for you And I had a big dream when you walked round that ring The ......................... sure I knew you would win A bonny desire I felt it inside When I looked at you sure you filled me with pride And the race course was crowded when the ...... came in Down there are ........ to see who would win. No, I didn't worry, I didn't care I put all my money upon the black mare. The starter he shouted, stay back from the line The black mare from Ireland should I knew she was fine. I listened to a sound sample, and I can only make a few corrections: ... you would win A burning desire, how I felt it deep inside When I looked at you, you filled me with pride. CHORUS: Hear the sound of the thunder. Hear the sound on the earth. Hear the sound of the thunder, four hooves* on the turf. [*Thanks to AnneMC] |
20 Feb 09 - 05:38 PM (#2572112) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sound of the Thunder (Fureys) From: Schmiddy now I can answer my own question: Sound of the Thunder Heard the sound of the Thunder, I heard the sound on the earth Heard the sound of the Thunder, for who's on the Turf. I saw you at the Curragh, in the County Kildare where you flew like a dream with your long black hair. Then I saw you on Airdrie and at Doncaster too I knew the Gold Cup it was waiting for you And I had a big grin when you walked round that ring And me just a punter, sure I knew you would win A burning desire, how I felt it inside When I looked at you sure you filled me with pride And the race course was crowded when the punters came in Down there at Cheltenham to see who would win. No, I didn't worry, no, I didn't care I put all my money upon the black mare. And the starter he shouted, stay back from the line! The black mare from Ireland sure I knew she was fine. And oh how we shouted as she crossed the line She was the first in the Gold Cup and the winner was mine |
