20 Jul 05 - 09:30 PM (#1524716) Subject: RE: Folklore: wot nite are folknites on paltalk From: Uncle_DaveO There hasn't been a regular night for Mudcat get-togethers on Paltalk, at least for a good long time--what, a year or so? Generally if someone is going to open a room they will announce it in an appropriately named thread, telling what time they will open the room and what the room name is. Of course the announcement needs to be far enough in advance so that people know it's going to happen. This is particularly important, given the current instability of Mudcat service. I should think the announcement would be best given 24 hours ahead. Generally we have not had a locked room where a password is needed. At one time we had a pretty regular room every Thursday night, as I recall about starting 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. If there were enough interest I suppose we could do that again. I for one would make what efforts I could to attend such a regularly scheduled room. Dave Oesterreich |
21 Jul 05 - 01:57 AM (#1524852) Subject: RE: Folklore: wot nite are folknites on paltalk From: open mike i am no longer able to get the paltalk connection. as i recall anyone can start a room, and to do so you need a code. Back when i had a connection I hosted the Mudcat Live acoustic jam on Thursday nights for many many weeks... the best deal is to go to the music rooms and usually the rooms with "live" in their names are the best ones. quite a few mudcats would join me there and I miss our sessions!! Sometimes they would continue for 6-8-10 hours!! and people from all time zones would come and go as their area's time allowed. I usually started at 6 on the west coast so UK folks could come in at the end of their day. Often when we were still going after midnight pacific time, the Europeans would be starting their day and join in again!! I installed (or rather it installed itself if i recall) service pack 2 and since then the sound has been poor quality--unbearable. i need to figure out how to get on again.. until then, I hope someone might get a room going....just please make up a new name and do not use the name i used.... Toledo Frank showed me how to make a room and Uncle Dave O was always prompt to jump in and join!! Reggie NoBro and many other mud cat folks came by, also...including Max! at the time the Paltalk (www.paltalk.com) program was not compatible with Mac computers, I am not sure if that is still the case.. any way if you do find or make a room, let us know...it is a great way to share music!! 21 Jul 05 - 10:54 AM (#1525095) Subject: RE: Wot nite are folknites on paltalk From: Uncle_DaveO Laurel: A couple of thoughts on your sound quality on Paltalk, and what you MIGHT do about it. Of course you might, on Paltalk, go to one of the Help Forums. They have very knowledgeable people manning them. They might be of help. The other thing is pinging. If you click on START, and then RUN, you'll get what I'll call a comman slot. Type the following: ping -t 63.240.0.174 And then click OK. This will give you a window which will run the PING program for the connection with Paltalk. Minimize it. The "ping etc" stays there in the RUN window, so that another time it will just be a matter of running it. This goes some way toward improving Paltalk sound. Whether enough to help your situation, I don't know. I do this every time I'm on Paltalk, for what it's worth. Dave Oesterreich |
21 Jul 05 - 11:00 AM (#1525106) Subject: RE: Wot nite are folknites on paltalk From: Uncle_DaveO I'll be out of town tonight, so I can't open a room, or attend one if there's one open. Well, possibly I might get there about 10 p.m. Eastern Daylight, but I can't even be sure of that. I liked the every-Thursday-night routine we used to have. I'll have to see about next week. Of course I'll be looking for any posts about rooms open between now and then. Dave Oesterreich |
21 Jul 05 - 04:41 PM (#1525206) Subject: RE: Wot nite are folknites on paltalk From: Uncle_DaveO Turns out I'll not be going out of town tonight after all, so I'll sign on to Paltalk at about 8:00 Eastern Daylight. If I don't find a recognizable Mudcat room in progress, I'll start one. If so, I'll use "Mudcat Live Room". (without the quotation marks). No password. Dave Oesterreich |
21 Jul 05 - 06:41 PM (#1525226) Subject: RE: Wot nite are folknites on paltalk From: Margaret V Dave O, that would be great. After quite a long absence I find I occasionally have time to visit Paltalk these days, but although the folks in the live rooms are friendly and there's some very good music, I have to confess that sometimes the mindlessness of the text chat in some of those rooms depresses me. It would be nice to actually discuss MUSIC now and again, or to have an indication that folks are actually listening to the songs being sung instead of chattering about how many beers they've had, etc. Boy, I sound like a curmudgeon, don't I?! See you around 8:00. Margaret |
21 Jul 05 - 09:09 PM (#1525249) Subject: RE: Wot nite are folknites on paltalk From: Uncle_DaveO This was at about 8:05 Eastern Daylight, but lo and behold, Mudcat was down. I thought I'd keep it for now, just to show that I mean what I said above. I said (or tried to say) We're up and running Margaret and I are entertaining each other, and we are breatlessly waiting for YOU to join us! Dave Oesterreich |
21 Jul 05 - 09:11 PM (#1525250) Subject: RE: Wot nite are folknites on paltalk From: Uncle_DaveO Margaret had to leave, but I'm sitting here, like a spider waiting for a fly to come into my parlor! Dave Oesterreich |
22 Jul 05 - 11:54 AM (#1525387) Subject: RE: Wot nite are folknites on paltalk From: Uncle_DaveO I kept the room open until about 9:45 Eastern Daylight. As I mentioned above, MargaretV2 spent some time with me, and we had a good time singing back and forth. After, I had one other "customer", whose Paltalk handle was something like "desTENknee", as I recall, who only stayed long enough for me to sing one song. After he/she left, no others dropped in. I hope we can have a more active room next Thursday, or such other day that someone wants to open a room. See(hear) ya 'round! Dave Oesterreich |
22 Jul 05 - 07:31 PM (#1525805) Subject: RE: Wot nite are folknites on paltalk From: Margaret V Thanks again for opening the room, Dave. It was a pleasure swapping songs. Hope to see some others next week, too! Margaret |
