BS: Here we go again in Egypt

At least 30 people died and more than 100 were wounded after a series of explosions rocked the Egyptian Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh and hotels at nearby Naama Bay on Saturday, local officials said.

A police source said one car bomb exploded near the Sharm el-Sheikh bazaar, and three in Naama Bay, at a tourist bazaar, the Ghazala Hotel and the Moevenpick Hotel. Naama Bay is located about six kilometers from Sharm and features a hotel complex that draws many European tourists.

It won't take long for the weasels who support terrorism to blame this on the US & UK

My guess is it has something to do with Egypts agreement to supply Palestinians with gas. I think Israel is probably pretty pissed about that. I will take a wild guess, hmmm - Does Israel have any terrorists? But then again, the targets were mostly tourists. Could be just about anybody. Lets wait and see...

Was it 2 years ago many Jews were killed in a bombing at that hotel resort?

Year 2000

Sharm el-Sheik peace summit

In the first international effort to halt the violence, Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, U.S. President Bill Clinton, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Jordan's King Abdullah II, U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, and E.U. foreign policy chief Javier Solana attend a peace summit in Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt. At the conclusion of the summit, Clinton announces that Barak and Arafat have reached a cease-fire agreement. However, the violence on the ground continues. An international fact finding commission-- led by former U.S. senator George Mitchell-- is formed to investigate the cause of the clashes.

Year 2004.

And the hate goes on.

Does it matter who is responsible at this moment in time, surely condolences to the dead is in order, and not getting ready to jump all over another thread with your ramblings.

God bless them all

Dianavan suggests the Israelis as possible culprits. I confidently predict she will not be the only person to make this suggestion: it is after all well known that they did 9/11(after warning all Jews to get out of the buildings). Or so I've heard anyway. I met a guy in Northwich the other day who said it was something to do with lizards.

What an ugly and inherently anti-Semitc statement.

This bombing is one in a long series of events perpetrated by the Islamic fundamentalist movement in Egypt. You know, the guys who killed Anwar Sadat because he made peace with Israel rather than continuing Nasser's pledge to "drive the Jews into the sea."

The resort that was bombed was freely and openly patronized by Israelis and Egyptians, Jews and Moslems, not to mention many (Christian) Europeans. Such intermingling is an abomination to the Islamic fundamentalist movement.

jacqui.c, I'm having difficulty seeing why you would come out in the open and support what Guest,23 Jul 05 - 04:47 AM has just said about me unless you are looking to publicly pick a fight with me. If that's the case, I suggest you go back and read what Joe Offer has said about people picking fights with others in the Mudcat.

Judge Mental - Don't be so touchy. My comment was not about Jews. I was surmising that the attack might have been the result of the recent trade agreement. It was a simple cause and effect deduction. I'd still like to know if there are any terrorist organizations from Israel.

dianavan...in nearly every post you imply that Islamists and their suicide bombers are 'rational' and that the leaders of the United Sates government and our military are not.

As soon as you realize that opinion is ass-backwards, you will be on the road to recovery.

Here's an update...

Yahoo news

This part in particular caught my attention...

The attacks last fall in Taba ended a long halt in Egyptian militant violence. The last major attack had been in 1997, when Islamic militants killed 58 foreign tourists and four Egyptians at the Pharaonic Temple of Hatshepsut outside Luxor in southern Egypt.

No major attacks for several years, then a series of several of them in less than a year.

Al Qaeda groups have already claimed responsibility - not that there'd be much doubt.

They will punish everyone who supports western governments. They will continue to try to drive the wedge between Islam and non-Islam cultures. Their opinions are NOT hidden.

They will not seek to kill everyone - just everyone who needs killing.

So IF JacquiC was trying to pick a fight with you CarolC, it would have been on the basis of what you have previously written in the threads of the Mudcat; correct? On that basis you should not have called me and other people some of the names you did in the Muslim Intolerence thread. Or is it just that you can say what you like without being called to account while others must put up with your diatribe against something they say, with which you don't agree. Sounds awfully like double standards to me, and NO I'm not trying to pick a fight just pointing out the contradictions in your statements.

"Egypt and Mr. Mubarak are despised by Al Qaeda and its adherents for supporting American policy and involvement in the Middle East, as well as for its peace treaty with Israel. Egypt has also tried to crush Islamic political movements like the Muslim Brotherhood."

I am appalled.

I don't understand how this or any of the recent waves of terrorist attacks will stregthen their political cause. It appears that their only cause is death and destruction. This will only strengthen the resolve to wipe out terrorism, internationally. I am sick and tired of innocent people being killed for political reasons.

There must be a way to address the grievances of the terrorists and end this terrible wave of violence. I don't think the answer is to wage war or invade other countries. Obviously, terrorist organizations are in our own countries. What you gonna do? Shoot to kill if someone 'looks like a terrorist'? Remind me not to wear padded jackets or carry a backpack.

pdq - I do not think that suicide bombers (terrorists) are rational but I do try to make sense of the senseless - my big flaw. I also know that there is no logic or reason in madness. I do not believe that the actions of the U.S. are rational either. As usual, the innocents are the victims of two irrational forces in conflict.

No double standard at all, John 'Giok' MacKenzie. We have had the dawn of a new day here in the Mudcat. Joe Offer has laid down a new set of rules. This was done since the thread you reference went dormant. I don't personally have any problem with this new set of rules, and I am trying my best to adhere to them, despite the small but persistant cadre of people who have been following me around the Mudcat lately flaming me and trying to pick fights with me.

Address their grievances? Their greivance is that we are non-Muslim.

We could pay them not to kill us, for a while ... but in the long run the Islamofacists will not not rest until they have enslaved or converted the world. These are clearly, loudly and widely published views.

Of course, these are not the views of all the Muslim world - but they are the views of those who insist on speaking for the Muslim world.

These pigs want us to hate and revile Islam. They hope we will force the rest of Islam to hate us too and to join in the Jihad.

"... one can only hope so."

HOPING for more violence and partisan divisiveness? When will it get thru to everyone that NOTHING will be settled... ever.... by bombs & killing?

We have seen every argument on both sides of this, citing 'history' and "Mommy, he started it!" claims for hundreds of years. The opinions are now 98% emotional and logic is employed only to support whatever side you are in favor of.

I saw that article looking up Begin & Sadat. Yep... nicely written. Both men were taking chances even trying. Too many on both sides didn't want peace. For some 'hate' is what powers their life and destiny.

For sure, Bill. I like that the article gets into some detail of behind-the-scenes machinations. But at the end of the day it all may result in a war that we from the nuclear 'cold war' era have prayed would never happen.

Well the good thing is, that they're not united. If they were then an attack on Israel from all sides would bring out the nuclear arsenal. After that it could be, put your head between your knees, and kiss your arse goodbye.

I take it this is about the attack on the Israel embassy on Friday, following the killing by Israel of a number of Egyptian cops in Egypt. Not really any more surprising than the attack on the British embassy in Dublin back in 1972 after Bloody Sunday, when they burnt it down.

Amazing what losing the common enemy of dictatorship does for civil disunity in the no-longer-dictated-to...

*sigh*

One can always hope for the invasion from outer space, since nothing else will apparently unify humanity...

Or, even worse, some bacterium or virus or little wormlike thingie that crawls in your ear when you sleep... *shudder*
