From: dulcimer Hear a few days back for a musician who went to Ireland that Bonaparte Crossing the Rocky Mountains had an Irish name or there was a similar tune that was easily recognized. He didn't remember what they called it. I only know it as an Old-time American Fiddle tune. Any further information? |

If so my banjo book says it became known as Sherman's March to the Sea during/after the US Civil War. If you can post ABC for the Rocky Mountains I would like to compare them. |

From: Les B There's a song in the data base called "The Regular Army, Oh" (and it has a midi tune you can play back) which is the same as Bonaparte Crossing the Rocky Mountains. Somewhere, unfortunately not in the notes with this song, I remember reading that it was derived from an Irish tune called Dear Old Donegal. Bonaparte Crossing the Rhine and Bonaparte's Retreat are different tunes. |
