Dear Mick,

You can wish me a Happy New Year. I'm sure others feel the same way.

The song you want may be "Queen Among the Heather," a Scots ballad that turns up in Northern Ireland as well.

Take a look at Robin Morton's book, Folksongs Sung in Ulster. Songs 3 is "Heather on the Moor."

Song 6 in Colm O Lochlainn's More Irish Street Ballads is "Doon the Moor." Is that it?

It's possible the Dubliners did the song. However, I think you are prudent to be skeptical of guys from Iceland. I made a career of it.

All the best.

This is the 3rd thread on this, (I can't now find the 2nd) but so far we haven't even got confirmation that the tune Jon W. supplied (a reel) in the first thread is the correct tune. What makes Scarpi think that there was such a song? A 3 word title is not much to go on, but we haven't been able to get anything more.

Hello again. I have been looking for this song called DOWN THE BROOM. On a cd called The dubliner live In carré In Amsterdam Is this song among two another, but number five on the cd Is medley In this row: 1 Dunphy´s hornpipe 2 Leitrim Fancy 3 Down the Broom. those melody´s are plaeyd on a tin flute . The Dubliner´s dosen´t sing It, they just play It on a tin flute . So If you go to the music store sometime you should listen to this cd .Beleave me those melody´s are fantastic. Now I´m not sure this might be a jig or a reel , I´ve been looking for this In Ireland with no luck.Liam´s brother Hmmmmmm. All the best to everyone I hope you will give you a time to listen to this melody´s on this cd. skarpi Iceland.

The CD is of 1985, Polydor 825 681-2. Why not ask the Dubliners? There's an e-mail address at the bottom of their internet home page. imal.vub.ac.be/dubliners/

Sorry, the Dubliners' Home page is imol.vub.ac.be/dubliners.

Another source on the web gives 1983 for the CD "Live at the Carre"

There is a song called Low Down In The Brown, a nice little love song. If you can't find the lyrics, I'll pull out the tape and write them down for you.
