8/1/1830 {and 1838} {and 1839}
(d1870) {at age 28} {at age 32}
{of an undiagnosed infectious disease} {of smallpox}

Léotard performed the first flying trapeze act at the
Cirque Napoleon in Paris, France, November 12, 1859.

  
          He'd fly through the air with the greatest of ease,
          That daring young man on the flying trapeze.
          His movements were graceful, all girls he could please
          And my love he purloined away.
