happy? - Aug 1 ('Twas on the first of August)

Ah, that rousing, stirring line: 'Twas on the first of August.' It brings to mind everybody's favorite party song. Actually, the Happy file includes two other songs with the identical opening words and having nothing to do with parties or Scottish villages. Nevertheless, today's offering is:

On August the first they made land off St. Mary's
On the south coast of England just by Bishop's Rock
In amazement the townsfolk gathered down by the water
Where Harbo and Samuelson barely could walk.

"Harbo and Samuelson," written by Jerry Bryant.

It is a song commemorating the first two men to cross the Atlantic by pure muscle power. Bryant wrote the song after reading about it in the "Old Farmer's Almanac", and then doing some extra research. [thanx DoN]

They left New York 06 Jun 1896; landed in England 01 Aug 1896. [thanx Edie Gale Hays]

Thanks, Q!

Though actually, I thought "Everybody's favorite party song" referred to another song that Abbey Sale hadn't posted... But it wouldn't be the first time I had misread something...

No! She couldn't have meant the Ball of Kerriemuir (could she?).
