01 Aug 05 - 12:56 PM (#1532714) Subject: Welcome Judge Mental From: PoppaGator I don't know this person, but I was so intrigued by his(?) extremely clever pseudonym that I clicked on it and discovered that he's a new poster, as of July 22 (just last week), who has dropped a couple of hints that he's been a US folk-scene insider for a long time... Whoever you may be, welcome! |

01 Aug 05 - 02:32 PM (#1532780) Subject: RE: Welcome Judge Mental From: Amos You're in good company, Yer Honor -- not only do we judge mental here, we also judge physical, spiritual, aesthetic, and reedickledockle with equal ease. Stand by to have your horizons expanded!!! Seriously, anyone with a good sense of folk-music history is more than welcome. A |
01 Aug 05 - 04:39 PM (#1532853) Subject: RE: Welcome Judge Mental From: Judge Mental Thanks for the welcome. I don't think I'm much of an insider anymore, but I do go back to the folk scare days. |
01 Aug 05 - 05:36 PM (#1532894) Subject: RE: Welcome Judge Mental From: Amos You may enjoy picking up some historical threads in the Mudcat's past, notably by Peace, Art Thieme, Rick Fielding, and our special Ozark angel Kytrad, all of whom have played parts in the unrolling of what was begun in the Great Folk Scare. There are many others I have missed mentioning, but if you're incllined you will find a lot of memory lane material in our back-threads. A |
01 Aug 05 - 06:09 PM (#1532912) Subject: RE: Welcome Judge Mental From: GUEST,Peter Woodruff PoopaGator, Is this thread about Supreme Court Judges? If not please explain to me why you Welcome Judge Mental. Are you refering to right wing judges as mental? Are you trying to denegrate these most powerful of men and women? We need to have a little talk, you and me PoopaGator. Why is everybody so upset over President Bush's Supreme Court Judge picks? What does it really matter anyway? Peter |
01 Aug 05 - 06:34 PM (#1532928) Subject: RE: Welcome Judge Mental From: PoppaGator Peter, If I were going on about politics, I would have posted down in "BS." This is about a new Mudcat member; perhaps I should have spelled it out more clearly, but several other folks seem to have understood... (Besides, I would probably not be welcoming the President's appointee, but then again this is not BS so I'm not getting into all that...) |

03 Aug 05 - 04:11 PM (#1534165) Subject: RE: Welcome Judge Mental From: GUEST ..."our special Ozark angel kytrad...." Please elaborate. This site says Jean Ritchie was born in Viper, Ky, - where I think she lives now - in the Cumberland mountains...and her music has been associated, in my mind at least, with the Appalachian mountains. I fail to see the Ozark/Arkansas/Missouri connection. We briarhoppers want to claim such a treasure as Jean Ritchie all to ourselves. P.S. Jean, are you coming to the Kentucky FolkLife Festival in Frankfort this year? |
03 Aug 05 - 04:59 PM (#1534196) Subject: RE: Welcome Judge Mental From: PoppaGator Yeah, I noticed that "Ozark" reference and I too thought it was all wrong. I suppose that to some Yankees, one southern mountain range is the same as another ~ but it ain't so! |
03 Aug 05 - 09:27 PM (#1534556) Subject: RE: Welcome Judge Mental From: Desert Dancer Amos and I already had a PM conversation about that little slip of his. His problem isn't that he's a Yankee, it's that he's a Californian! ;-) ~ Becky in Tucson (a Yankee originally, and familiar with the Appalachians, north and south) |
