09 Aug 05 - 09:01 AM (#1538382) Subject: BS: Celebrate with me!!!! From: jeffp In February 2003, my wife Bonnie was diagnosed with gall bladder cancer after an emergency operation to remove said gall bladder. She had further surgery to take out part of her liver as a precaution against spread. All was well until last September, when a CT scan revealed a suspicious spot on her liver. A PET scan identified it as probable cancer and also found a hot spot on an ovary. Ultrasound, biopsy, the whole works, confirmed it was, in fact metastatic from the gall bladder. She had surgery in October to resect the liver and remove both ovaries. Subsequent postoperative infections had me packing wounds for months (not a fun time, I can tell you). She started chemotherapy in January and finished at the end of June. We just got the results of her post-chemo PET/CT scan. NO EVIDENCE OF MALIGNANCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are, as you can well imagine, quite overjoyed at this. Please join me in lifting a virtual glass to the honor of the wonderful folks at the Central Maryland Oncology Center, without whom she would not be alive today. Jeff |

I was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago and after losing my dear sister to it six years previous , I was well aware of what could happen. I totally agree that without those wonderful dedicated people that work in oncology here in Hull , my outlook would have seemed less positive...I will raise a glass with you both. And we must always remain positive as best we can whatever life throws our way. Love and hugs to you both......xxx suzi |

11 Aug 05 - 10:39 AM (#1539944) Subject: RE: BS: Celebrate with me!!!! From: jeffp Thanks everybody! Here's a song I wrote for the folks at the Oncology Center: The House of the Dying Tumor © 2005 Jeff Porterfield Tune: House of the Rising Sun There is a place in Columbia The Center for Oncology And they've saved the life of many a fine soul And one of them was me My mother always told me There was cancer in my genes My father had a large prostate gland And you all know what that means Now the only thing a tumor needs Is a body to play host And the only time that it's satisfied Is when you've given up the ghost Now mothers tell your children To do what I have done The doctors may just save the life Of your daughter or your son I've got both eyes on the future And I'm moving on from here I'm looking forward to a life Where I don't have to fear There is a place in Columbia The Center for Oncology And they've saved the life of many a fine soul And one of them was me |
