Yeah, it's Hull on Earth. Actually, never been there. Mooh.

I spent a fortnight in Hull one friday, waiting for a ship.

Harogate was best and Hull was worst, both in Yorkshire, very odd.

I think Harrogate was best.
Sorry.
Scruffy hotels and year-round geeky conference-goers; great except when you have to live there.

I can confirm that Harrogate would be great to go and sit in an armchair and learn to knit. Hull would a bit more fun though.

I am not surprised though. We watched the programme, and once Middlesborough was out of the way we knew we would top the list.

Born Nottingham, raised in Hull, I've visited Harrogate enough to know I would need to be paid (well) to consider it as a place to live.

Half the equation seemed to be whether you could find boutique shopping, a skinny latte and a whine bar while waiting for your over-achieving offspring to finish their after-school club ponyride.

Not real life, but interesting.

The criteria they used for judging were quite bizarre. The environment was one of the categories they scored points for, but this actually seemed to be based on statistics of how many hectars of piblic parks there were. So naturally the likes of Harrogate did rather well. Now, I like a nice park as well as the next man, but it's not the basis I use to describe an area's environmental standing.

There are some terrific people and places in Hull, but lets keep that as our little secret.

The programme was not about real life.

They may not have looked to hard Hull parks & gardens

It's very green in Hull. Everyone sea-sick from living near the coast and tidal rivers.

It said Hull has got a lot of chip shops, I can live with that.

Radio stations in Nottingham have been bombarded with the story of last night's programme, councellors have been ringing up in their dozens saying that channel 4 have got their facts wrong!

I've live about 15 miles outside now, but I have lived in the city of Nottingham, I didn't see the programme but I'm struggling to believe that it's THAT bad!

From Hull and Halifax and Hell good lord deliver me - is a bit obvious,
They have a good bridge (3rd longest Singel span in the world?)access to some brilliant contryside North and South so like Reading it is a nice easy place to get out of and so, enjoyable! Even if not for itself - was that part of the criteria?

The main criteria was fish and chip shops, highly technical research, someone was probably paid many pounds for it.

a point overlooked is that you can't see the sea in Westminster, or Harrogate, and I bet their chip shops are crap

A rather obvious North/South divide.
If its not London or near then its crap!
As far as I am concerned the further North the better But have you ever been to.... no I had better not.

I think Peterhead is the worst place I have ever been so I am surprised to not see it in the top 10 - perhaps not enough people have been there to appreciate (?) it.

We were on holiday years ago in the north east of Scotland and diverted to Peterhead for something to eat and somewhere to feed baby.

The locals all looked strangely at me when I went for a pint and asked if I was there on business; then if I was lost; then if I was visiting someone. When I answered 'no' to all they ran out of ideas as to why I could possibly be there. The concept of going there as a holiday or in passing was a completely alien one to them - says something about a place.

I think that when this list was drawn up someone somewhere forgot to mention that had the government not taken away our industries....
Hulls fishing
Wales mining
Middlesborough engineering
Easington coal
Salford docks
That the above places were thriving and pleasant to work and live.. but alas less work.... things are bound to suffer.
However the good things ie.. fishing, mining, have given us folkies plenty to sing about.
