Religious leader killed during prayer

That's shocking news. I known it's a truism to say the right thing to respond to this kind of thing is to take it as an opportuinity to celebrate a life rather than mourn a death, but truisms are only truisms because they are true.

Here's a link to the Taizé web site.

In the light of the Taizé Psalms and Chants, I think this thread really belongs up in the music section.

Here's a link to a site with some sound files (in French and in Latin, as it happens).

What a shame. Seems a decent and goodly man, to be done in by a nutball.

Music-related?

A pity indeed - I have a wonderful CD of the Taize hymns and chants that I can put on when realy stressed - Usualy takes about 2 minutes to sort me out:-) The Taize community was a brilliant idea by the good Frere and could be used as a model to bring religious unity elsewhere. I was about to speculate as to what kind of person would kill this man but I just read it was someone who was mentaly disturbed. Doesn't make it any better but at least it does seem to be nothing more than an unfortunate event:-(

Yes, Greycap, very much music related. If you've never come across the Taizé music, you've a treat coming.

Brother Roger, and his Taize community, probably did more good for the Christian faith than any other single individual or community in the 20th century, in terms of renewal, community, theology, service to the poor, work with young people, liturgy, and ecumenicity. If there is to be a Christian faith worthy of the name in the 21st century, it will spring from the kinds of work that he did and inspired others to do. His bizarre and tragic death can only be compared to that of Thomas Merton, back in 1968.

One can perhaps expect to die at 90, but to be murdered at 90 is particularly sad! No one deserves that, and a good man like this one certainly does not.
I hope that he is standing at God's right hand now.
