We have lost another of our Texas treasures. How well I remember seeing A Wayne for the very first time at the old Wunche's Cafe in Spring some 25 or 26 years ago - just like yesterday. My favorite time of his shows was the last song of the last set when those few who were left would hold hands in a circle and sing that last song together. I last saw him at the Millbend Coffeehouse last year and I remember how tired he looked and just hoped he would make it through Kerrville one last time. God bless you A Wayne for all the joy and happiness you've given me and my family. Sing with angels, forever !!

Back in 1964-65 Allen used to sing at a "coffee house" (remember those?)called The Id, on 24th st. just west of the Univ. of Tex campus here in Austin. So did I. It has always amazed me--with so many friends, working associates, travels--he always remembered my name after intervals of years when we might see each other. He had a good mind and always seemed to give his best with good cheer to those participating in the program with him (whether as audience or singers/players). Too young (66!!). Dadgum shame.    Tw

I knew Allen through Bob Gibson.--Not well and mostly in Chicago. Good fellow! Good times. My condolences go out.

I'm very sorry to see his passing. I met Allen when we both played at a festival in Amarillo TX a few years ago. A nice guy and a great entertainer. He had a nice way of telling a story, and a story for every song! He also wrote and recited some wonderful "cowboy" poetry. We will miss him!

Allen was a friend, a drinking pal in his drinking days, we shared a few gigs together, and he will be missed.

A true character out of the old West. The world is lesser with his passing. Godspeed.
