BBC Radio Leeds Folk Special (& webcast)

There's a 3 hour folk special on August Bank Holiday Monday from 1900-2200hrs on 92.4, 103.9 and (in Wharfedale) 95.3 FM
also on DAB and webcast online with camera (!) at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radioleeds

The show will be steered on its course by top Leeds outfit The D'Urbervilles
and will feature an interview with Richard Thompson.
Oh, and I've been asked to contribute a three-song 'live set' too.
HFA (Duncan McFarlane)

It has been know for people in Derbyshire to be able to pick up BBC Radio Leeds. It is also possible that other local Radio stations may decide or have decided to take this programme Via the Night Network Land Line. It might worth checking out other local BBC Radio Stations.

Yep. That's a possibility Tyke. Hope so. Thanks.
For those that can't pick it up ordinarily, there's the simultaneous Webcast (see above)
...makes note, must get hair done for that pesky webcam... second thoughts, why bother, bag over my head might be better! HFA

Will be driving back from weekend away, but will make sure back in Radio Leeds territory so as not to miss y'all. That line up should shake the air-waves! Any more "local" gigs before Otley Festival?

We'll be listening all the way down here in Devon, Duncan....in fact I'm listening to BBC Radio Leeds right now...just to get into the mood! ;0)

Been nearly two weeks since we heard you and your band live down at Sidmouth Folk Week....Roll on the weekend!

Deirdre (Busy Bee Paul at work???!): I'll ask them if it's streamed for the next week and post it up here if it is.
Then you'll miss nowt. Hope the weather's good for your camping trip!

Beeswing: (two 'bees' in successive posts, how about that!)
No local gigs before Otley Fest, just Walton-on-the-Naze fest (Essex!) where the leccie band are on in one big concert with the Demon Barbers and one of Simon Care's outfits I believe (that'll be a band, not his clothing!). We do have a Harrogate gig (local enough?) after Otley. Watch the website for details please.

Lizzie (Wot, no 'bee' name?): The band enjoyed Sidmouth a great deal. Like kids after a ride, we wanna go again! Our spot in the Ham Marquee gig was filmed, as you know, and the DVD has just been finished (oh yes!) so there may be summat afoot for devotees. Watch the website!

Cheers! Duncan

Whilst we bask in the possibility of "Folk" being broadcast on BBC Radio Leeds let's not forget how one hour of "Folk" is a pittance. BBC Radio Leeds used to have it's own Folk Programme every Week. This has now been diluted to nothing! Ok times change the and Big Mac Rules. However wake up letters to the BBC pointing out Digital Broadcasting (the Number of New Channels) and the repeats and the lack of local representation and airtime should be sent. Should you feel that Folk on Local Radio is getting a raw deal from the BBC.

I leave you for now with a quiz question! Who was the first person to sing live on BBC Radio Leeds?

I'll give you a clue!
He is a traditional singer who used to run a Folk Club with Tommy Daniels (The man who wrote Poverty Knocks).

No Sapper No! You can't miss Duncan singing live!

Sorry, but you'll just have to record Radio Derby...'tis the only way! ;0)

AND a DMcF Band DVD from Siddy Folk Week to look forward to as well. Saturday afternoon just got SO much better!

Caught you at Sidmouth what an excellent set, are you actually playing on Monday or is it one of those "live" recorded broadcasts??

Bet you don't play one of your RT covers with the man himself on the show, still plenty of your own to choose from. Looking forward to the live DVD, did they manage to keep you in shot, you were a fast moving target from where I was sitting?

Cheers

Eric

Well sapper...we listened to the whole show last night too! It sounded great from our end Duncan....well done!

For those that missed it....you can catch it all over again here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/leeds/

When the 'home' page comes up, click on the Red Box on the right hand side with 'BBC Local Radio Listen Live' on it, which will take you to a menu, click on 'Folk and Country', takes you to a smaller menu still and then click on 'The Durbervilles' and hey presto! 3 hours of great music and chatter...Richard Thompson interview in 3 sections and live music from Duncan McFarlane and some of his band too, again in 3 sections......

The good people at Radio Leeds have worked really hard to get this on to 'Listen Again' so...go on....show 'em you care! ;0)

Lizzie :0)

PS...the 'blue clicky' connection isn't working at present from my computer at least, but I'm sure you can follow the link, or perhaps someone else would be good enough to repeat it properly for me....thanks!

Hi all - thanks for the kind words - we had a good 'un (after a nervous start!) I believe.
No we weren't recorded earlier, my friend, we played absolutely live in the studio - big thanks to Dave Crickmore for mixing the sound.
The three hosts were a bit comical weren't they!

Tyke, I fondly remember the old Henry Ayrton folk prog that was sadly dropped last year - posted my distaste and disapproval of that occurance at the time, right here on Mudcat in fact.
Don't be too disparaging of the latest efforts my friend.
That's about the fourth three hour folk and roots 'holiday special' these boys have been allowed to put out on air - and if their popularity were to increase, ie folk were to write in to the Beeb in Leeds and voice huge amounts of support, who knows? They might reinstate more regular coverage. Let's hope these 'specials' DO have that effect.

Eric Half Bee? (there's been a real 'bee' theme on here hasn't there!?) The camera work at Sidmouth came out amazingly well and I've witnessed the completion of a souvenir (sp?) DVD this week.
As we don't do all this to make money particularly, we'll likely run 'em off (to order) at a nominal amount of 5 or 6 pounds!!! Yep!
So keep an eye on www.duncanmcfarlane.co.uk for an announcement on that, soonish. (And I'm not even blurred despite my sprinting about on stage! Never had so much room and I've now discovered how out of condition I am!)

Finally, it IS streamed all this week and is worth a listen if you missed it (I assure you I don't mean 'just' for us. There was some fine music played....
Mr Thompson of course and Robin Dransfield, mmmmmmm
Even though the hosting 'D'Urdevilles play a higher percentage of, er, americana-flavoured material than is my particular taste, I tapped a foot and grooved along for the whole show.
Byeeeee - HFA (that's with an F Rhyzla me boy!) Cheers! - Duncan
