Does any one know any songs with the name Humphrey in them?
Or any that might be appropriate?

Have you heard of Humphrey B Bear? Don't know if he's made it outside of Australia yet. Google search may provide material.... Theme song starts "What a funny old fellow is Humphrey..."

Then there's always "Humphrey Dumphrey sat on a wall..." :-)

Best I can do! Back in my cage...

one about humphrey the wayward
whale who swam up the sacramento
river from the san francisco bay

i know there is a book--written
by the author of Ecotopia,
Ernest Callenbach

You might like to look at a rather obscure ballad: Child No. 321 'Lord Humphrey and the Elf Trousers'. I don't think that a tune has been collected for it though - try looking in Bronson.

I seem to remember someone wrote a song about Humphrey the Cat at Number Ten Downing Street, who got pensioned off by Tony Blair, because he and Cherie evidently don't get on too well with cats.

Can't be Bogart to think about this.

Seems that Hubert Humphrey should have had a campaign song in 1968, but I couldn't find one. Poor guy. He should have had a better year to run for President. Since Lyndon Johnson made such a mess of things and Bobby Kennedy was assassinated, there was no way a Democrat was going to be elected in 1968.

Now, I have to say that Tom Lehrer recorded "Whatever Became of Hubert" in 1965 to call attention to Humphrey's anonymous vice presidency - but not once does he call Hubert "Humphrey."

Hubert deserved better. He was a good man.

-Joe Offer-

Whatever Became of Hubert?
(Tom Lehrer, 1965)

Whatever became of Hubert?
Has anyone heard a thing?
Once he shone on his own,
Now he sits home alone
And waits for the phone to ring.

Once a fiery liberal spirit,
Ah, but now when he speaks, he must clear it.
Second fiddle's a hard part, I know,
When they don't even give you a bow.

"We must protest this treatment, Hubert",
Says each newspaper reader.
As someone once remarked to Schubert,
"Take us to your Lieder"...
(Sorry about that.)

Whatever became of you, Hubert?
We miss you, so tell us, please:
Are you sad? Are you cross?
Are you gathering moss
While you wait for the boss to sneeze?

Does Lyndon, recalling when he was VP,
Say "I'll do unto you like they did unto me"?
Do you dream about staging a coup?
Hubert what happened to you?

Well, Hubert Humphrey did once say "Our greatest songs are still unsung."
..................

I've never heard this one, but it might fit the bill, if cushty could chase it up - The Humphrey Somg, by The Mad Hatters, 1976.

Unigate Dairies ran a UK advertising campaign in the 1970s for there milk with the slogan 'Watch out there's a Humphrey about!'. There was a song with this title featured in the adverts. You can view the adverts by going here: TV ARK and checking under 'U' for Unigate Milk.

One of the "Three Old Ladies Locked Up In A Lavatory" was a Mrs Humphrey....
Who sat herself down and made herself comfey,
She pulled and she tugged but could not get her bumfree,
And nobody knew she was there"

I did once write a tune called "The camel in the Hedge" which was inspired by Humphrey the paper mache camel who stands at the northbound side of the M5 as it passes Bridgwater. Perhaps I'll put some words to it. He started life as part of one of the Bridgwater Carnival floats and has had several adventures incuding having been borrowed to star with a steam loco rescued from the desert.

There was one song I recall for Humphrey in 1968 called "Let a winner lead the way" It starts out : Hey< fellas and girls kindly step to the rear and let a winner lead the way.
