The four-time International Bluegrass Music Association Male Vocalist of the Year has epitomized the "high lonesome" sound since he rose to national prominence as lead singer and rhythm guitarist for Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys in the 1960s. Since coming to Rounder Records in 1990, his Del McCoury Band, featuring sons Ronnie and Rob, has become widely acknowledged as one of the finest traditional bluegrass bands in the world. IRIS DEMENT - One of the most celebrated country-folk performers of her day, singer/songwriter Iris Dement drew early influence from Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Joni Mitchell. Her lastest album, Lifeline, (a portion of which was recorded at the Folk Center) finds her revisiting the church music of her youth in rural Arkansas and California. Appearing Sept. 17. Things apparently went well, leading NBB to perform with the likes of Lyle Lovett and Mary Chapin Carpenter, among others. The group has worked their way into studio projects with Clint Black and Johnny Cash, the latter of which was a collaboration on the soundtrack to the film Dead Man Walking. More recently NBB has come into national prominence with performances on the multi-platinum motion picture soundtrack to O'Brother Where Art Thou and the equally successful Down From The Mountain. Although the line up has changed over the years, NBB have retained the integrity of the American music from which they were born. Appearing October 8.
