Lyr Req: The Cobbler (from Sam Henry)

Could someone post the lyrics to "The Cobbler"? (from Sam Henry's Songs of the People, H551, p.40). I just can't find a copy of this book at a reasonable price.

Already in the DT, Michael.
Enter cobbler in Lyrics & Knowledge Search.

(I would have charged $0.50 per line)

As for "a reasonable price", what would that be? One that nearly covered the costs of producing the book? Don't bother with dealers who charge a fake "antiquarian" mark-up, if that's what you've seen so far (I've seen a -signed- copy advertised at £150, which is certainly pure greed on somebody's part). I bought my copy from John Moulden ( Ulstersongs ), and it was very good value indeed. That was a few years ago, but he may possibly have some copies left, so I'd suggest you find out.

If you think John's price unreasonable (even if it's gone up a bit; he doesn't have time to update the website), you'd be an unforgiveable cheapskate by anybody's standards. At three times what I paid, it would still be an unmissable bargain.

And so it is in the Digital Tradition. I cross-referenced 'Cobbler' with 'Sam Henry' thinking I'd get a more accurate search. Silly me. Thank you, Malcolm, for making me aware of John Moulden's site, I'm going to contact him and see if he has any copies left.

Fifty cents a line? That would be $16.50, including the title. Money better put towards getting my own copy.

Hi, Michael - You might want to try calling Down Home Music in el Cerrito in the San Francisco East Bay area. Lani Herrmann kept them supplied with copies to sell for years - but I'm not sure they still have copies. I'll check with Lani and see if I can get up-to-date information (Lani did the music notation for the book).
The price was $42.50 (new) as recently as five years ago.
-Joe Offer-
I checked with Lani Herrmann in December, 2005 - she said her supply is all gone, and so they won't be available at Down Home Music any more.

The sole copy offered by any of thousands of dealers with Abebooks, Alibris and Bookfinder is one in Edinburgh for about $278.25 (the one Malcolm speaks of, I think).
When I got mine some time ago, I tried the sources mentioned by Joe (who posted this way back in 1998, thread 6604) and by Malcolm without luck. I found a dealer in Athens, GA (where it was published by the University of Georgia Press) who had copies for US$75, but he is out.
The University also published some softcover copies, according to one dealer, probably of left-over sheets from the hardcover edition, but the book is not in their catalogue.

Good Luck!
