I thought it would be nice for people like Carol C and others to be able to say I told you so - and prove it.

Thread's open again. There's gonna be hell to pay when Shambles finds out it was closed, even though it was an automatic closure.

That's quite a blast from the past, Donuel, and I really do appreciate your giving me an opportunity to say "I told you so". But I must admit that because of what I've learned since that thread about the way the US and some other countries do business, I disagree with myself (mostly).

(BTW, my new stance is that we need to join the International Criminal Court, and make it a completely democratic body with every country having equal status within the organization.)

Prove what, exactly?

That politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it whether it exists or not, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying the wrong remedy?

That if the powers that be can get you asking the wrong questions, they don't have to worry about the answers?

Or that if a politician found he had cannibals among his constituents, he would promise them missionaries for dinner?

I love this one, from DougR. Famous last words...

I seriously doubt the president is planning military operations, Kendall, anymore than anyother president would do. They all rely on their military advisers. I agree, however, we are very lucky to have the team of advisers Bush has.

I'm not as confident as you, Mick, that the Vice President is chomping at the bit to throw any missiles at anybody. You may be thinking of what the previous administration did under similar circumstances, though.

It seems to me that the administration has shown great restraint, though the majority of the population evidently favors a quick military strike.

I do agree with myself on this one, however...

"The point is that there are many other options that we can utilize before we ever think about using military force. Military force is the approach with the greatest potential for causing the problem to get worse, rather than better. So it should be the last option we consider."

Joining the International Criminal Court would mean the end of Guantanamo Bay, and people like Lindy England being tried by courts outwith the US, this is something GWB and the majority of Americans would [I think] not stand for.

The USA never wanted to be part of the UN - it just wanted to control it. That's why the UN headquarters is in the USA.
