28 Aug 05 - 11:53 AM (#1551571) Subject: RE: Ray Fisher gigs From: GUEST I heard a whisper a wee while ago that she had been diagnosed as having cancer. I'm hoping it's not true, but if it is, wish her a speedy recovery and return to good health. A real trouper! |
28 Aug 05 - 12:37 PM (#1551596) Subject: RE: Ray Fisher gigs From: Joe Offer I got the impression she was a regular at Whitby Folk Week - but that won't happen again until next summer. Hearing Ray Fisher sing was a real pleasure for me when I visited the UK a few years back. -Joe Offer in California- |

28 Aug 05 - 04:57 PM (#1551747) Subject: RE: Ray Fisher gigs From: Diva Did the most wonderful job of judging the Womens Singing and the Border Ballads at Copshaw this year (July) and had the upstairs evening ceilidh buzzing as well. Hope she's soon on the mend!!!!! |
28 Aug 05 - 05:30 PM (#1551761) Subject: RE: Ray Fisher gigs From: Herga Kitty I've heard in the last week, from both Jim Mageean and Sheila Miller, that Ray has had the tumour removed (and her stomach with it). I hope to hear her singing in Whitby next August, if not before. Kitty |
28 Aug 05 - 06:49 PM (#1551801) Subject: RE: Ray Fisher gigs From: Surreysinger Cards for Ray were being circulated for signature at Whitby - one person I spoke to suggested that in addition to the above operation for cancer of the colon, Ray had also contracted the MRSA bug, but whether this is true or not I am uncertain, as it was third or fourth party news by the time that it was relayed to me. Wherever the truth lies, she has obviously been having a rough time of it, and my sympathy goes out to her. |
29 Aug 05 - 03:17 AM (#1552002) Subject: RE: Ray Fisher gigs From: Little Robyn I believe she's improving, tho' she has had a hard time. She's likely to be in hospital for another week or two and I don't think she'll be singing for awhile. I understand she just wants to rest and spend time with friends and family. If you want medical details, type gastrectomy in Google. Robyn |
29 Aug 05 - 05:30 AM (#1552055) Subject: RE: Ray Fisher gigs From: GUEST,Jezza I didn't expect to hear such news after starting this thread but I also wish Ray the very best for a speedy recovery - my partner is also recovering from a very similar operation so I have an idea what she has been through. As I only have a couple of her songs recorded from the radio which I found on an old tape, I would like to buy her albums. Can anyone provide a discography? |

29 Aug 05 - 06:45 AM (#1552078) Subject: RE: Ray Fisher gigs From: Little Robyn How'd I do dat? I crashed in mid-send! Ray has a CD out here: Ray's CD but I don't know if you'll find her earlier records. We have some home recordings made when Ray and Colin were here in NZ in 2001, including 2 tracks with Ray singing and me playing my Northumbrian pipes! We did Coulter's Candy and The Flo'ers o' the Forest at a concert in Wellington. I hope she'll be better soon - I hope the problem has been removed and no further treatment will be necessary but they don't know for sure yet. Robyn |
29 Aug 05 - 07:59 AM (#1552109) Subject: RE: Ray Fisher gigs From: GUEST,kendall Some years ago I had the pleasure of attending a concert featuring Ray, Cilla and Archie. That was a magic evening. Cilla sand a love song that would melt a tombstone, and I commented to the woman I was with at the break, "I think I'm in love with Cilla Fisher." She replied "I KNOW I am"!! |
10 Sep 05 - 04:39 AM (#1560323) Subject: RE: Ray Fisher gigs From: Little Robyn I've just heard that Ray is home from hospital and is feeling well, despite having had her stomach removed. I believe she has an impressive scar and that will probably cramp her singing style for awhile. She was wanting to cut down on public engagements anyway and is happy to just spend time with family and friends. Robyn |

11 Sep 05 - 06:05 PM (#1561308) Subject: RE: Ray Fisher gigs From: Susanne (skw) Greentrax has her 'Traditional Songs of Scotland' CD (1991) - the last time I looked, anyway. I like it far better than 'Bonny Birdy' because she (naturally) sounds much more mature and varied on the later recording. I do wish her well and hope she'll make a full and speedy recovery. |

25 Nov 05 - 05:49 PM (#1613804) Subject: RE: Ray Fisher gigs From: Little Robyn I believe she went back in for another wee op last month, to open up the end of her oesophagus but she's OK. Not eating much (but she never did) so she's not gaining much weight. But she's a battler! Robyn |
25 Nov 05 - 05:53 PM (#1613809) Subject: RE: Ray Fisher gigs From: Bainbo Thanks, Robyn. Glad to hear she's OK (ish). She's provided many happy folk club moments, and generates a lot of good will. |
