29 Aug 05 - 08:51 AM (#1552141) Subject: happy? - Aug 29 (Rebellion begins) From: Abby Sale 8/29/1786: Shays Rebellion begins against the oppresive taxes and forclosure imposed on Massachusetts farmers during the depression. It was quashed on Feb 4, 1787, the rebels scattered and Daniel Shays (unsuccessfully) condemned to death. Nevertheless, taxes were lowered and the government made significant steps to reduce costs as a result. This makes a clear statement and lesson for us. I'm dipped if I'm sure just what, though.
