29 Aug 05 - 09:43 AM (#1552178) Subject: BS: Angie From: Wolfgang Well, this is a thread about a song but it is a bit more about politics that's why I use the BS-tag. In a few weeks, for the first(?) time in history Germany will be governed by a woman, Angela Merkel. Her supporters call her 'Angie' and the Rolling Stones' song of that title is usually played before her campaign speeches. The Rolling Stones don't like that and have tried to prevent this song being played at any moment during the Christian Democrats' election campaign. Property rights and all that. They do not have a good legal case, BTW, for while waiting for the candidate speaking any music can be played legally, so why not a Rolling Stones song (would they have objected to 'Sympathy for the devil' BTW?). Lots of interesting changes since I was young: The two conservative parties in Germany are led by a divorced and remarried woman and an openly gay politician respectively and the Rolling Stones sue for violation of property rights. 40 years ago, the Christian Democrats would have thrown anyone out of the party who would have dared to play a Rolling Stones song at an official meeting. With no loving in our souls and no money in our coats You can't say we're satisfied ... Angie, you're beautiful, but ain't it time we said good-bye? Sheesh. If that's what she uses for 'pep talk', how long does she expect to stay in office?? |

30 Aug 05 - 02:57 AM (#1552680) Subject: RE: BS: Angie From: alanabit It would take a scandal involving sex, drugs and rock and roll to make Angela Merkel interesting! Probably the most interesting Conservative politician over here in the past thirty years, was the Bavarian thug Franz Josef Strauß. His offspring are currently having their troubles for continuing the family traditions of corruption and gun running. After his death, Franz Josef Strauß's crimes (including running guns to the DDR) came out. You can't tell Conservative Bavarians that he was anything other than a saint though. There is actually a Franz Josef Strauß airport! Perhaps we should build a Jonathon Aitken Museum (stocked with weapons and papers showing how to smuggle them with lists of prostitutes addresses). How about a Robert Maxwell Museum, which would exhibit forged certificates and faked evidence... No.. here's a better idea. Maybe the Bavarians should erect a Franz Josef Strauß Public Toilet. Then we could all leave our tribute! |
