Bollocks, It's Cloud Factory, a song about his father working in a power station whose cooling towers create clouds that can be seen for miles

Know the song, but don't know the lyrics that well I'm afraid! You could try emailing him through his website which is here.

The Cloud Factory
(Bill Caddick)

My father worked in the Cloud Factory,
He'd come home wreathed in dreams each day
My Mother took his cloudy clothes
To brush the threads of dreams away.
She'd scold and say "you and your dreams,
They're just for kids and fools like you."
But Father he'd just wink his eye and smile and say "Are you sure that's true?"

Chorus
My Father taught me how to sing. He sang that dreams were everything,
Can't be bought and can't be sold, More than silver, more than gold.

My Mother thought him fanciful,
She used to chide him all the while,
But me, I thought him wonderful,
Do anything to see him smile.
I used to hear him singing low,
The words are with me to this day:
"You have to hold on to youre dreams or else they simply slip away".

The last time I saw him ill and dying,
The only time I saw him cry.
Too late for dreams to come true now,
As he watched his last clouds rolling by.
Back home she opened windows wide,
And let the clouds out strand by strand
Til all but one had blown away and I caught and kept it in my hand.

My Mother doesn't do much lately
With no more clouds to clear away.
since they closed the factory down
No dreams seem to drift this way.
I found her sitting alone and still,
at first I thought her fasst asleep.
But Father'sd coat lay in her lap and around her feet the dreams lay deep.

Chorus
She said "He taught me how to sing......

Sometimes I pass the disused factory
And gaze into the empty sky,
and if I let the fancy lead me
A dream or two comes drifting by.
Oh I'll teach mey children how to sing,
To sing that dreams are everything,
Can't be bought and can't be sold,
More than silver, More than gold.

Bill gave me the words not long after he had written it for Kate as I fell in love with it on the spot.

Thanks for that Tig. It us a lovely somg isn't it, although I have to say not many other people can carry off Bills dreanmer songs( John o Dreams, Unicorns) without seeming twee. With Bill himself you can see he believes them.

From: RobbieWilson

Ha, found it through Google

THE SONG OF THE LOWER CLASSES.
(By ERNEST JONES.)
Music by John Lowry. This song can also be sung to the air of "The Monks of Old."

We plough and sow—we're so very, very low
That we delve in the dirty clay,
Till we bless the plain—with the golden grain,
And the vale with the fragrant hay.
Our place we know,—we're so very low,
'Tis down at the landlord's feet:
We're not too low—the bread to grow,
But too low the bread to eat.*

Down, down we go,—we're so very low,
To the hell of the deep sunk mines,
But we gather the proudest gems that glow,
When the crown of a despot shines.
And whenever he lacks—upon our backs
Fresh loads he deigns to lay:
We're far too low to vote the tax,
But not too low to pay.

We're low—we're low—mere rabble, we know,
      But, at our plastic power,
The mould at the lordling's feet will grow
Into palace and church and tower.
Then prostrate fall—in the rich man's hate,
      And cringe at the rich man's door;
We're not too low to build the wall,
But too low to tread the floor.

We're low—we're low—we're very very low,
      Yet from our fingers glide
The silken flow—and the robes that glow
Round the limbs of the sons of pride.
And what we get—and what we give—
      We know, and we know our share;
We're not too low the cloth to weave,
But too low the Cloth to wear!

We're low—we're low—we're very very low,
And yet when the trumpets ring,
The thrust of a poor man's arm will go
Thro' the heart of the proudest King.
We're low—we're low—our place we know,
We're only the rank and file,
We're not too low—to kill the foe,
But too low to touch the spoil.

What do you do about adding songs into th DT?

Dang, That is stupidity on my part. I always figure that song lyric seekers have checked the DT. My apologies to ya, Joe.

Just a note. The YOUTUBE of Bill doing the song shows the basic chords very clearly. I have no idea where he's capoed, nor whether he hits an Am7, but the BASIC chords are visible, and will be of help to someone with a better eye than me.

No need to shout...I was merely pointing out that the person on the video isn't Bill

I'll point him in the direction of this thread.

Perhaps he'll post them himself

Peace - it is normal accepted practice that to use capital letters in places like this is "shouting" and generally regarded as impolite, so Baz was only adhering to normal use by referring to it as that.

Looking at the YouTune clip, it is quite clear that the person who posted it is the one doing the playing (handle ichingiching... but I can't see what his name is) - it merely shows the song as being _by_ Bill Caddick - who incidentally will be the guest at the Music Institute Club in Guildford tomorrow night (Friday 25th January) - details on the thread specifically about that...

Chords from Peace's link (not Bill Caddick, words not quite the same as given above, but I've used lyrics from above) in G (clip in B, capo 4 I think) :-

(G)My father (D)worked in the (Bm6)Cloud Factory,
He'd (Am7)come home (G)wreathed in (C)dreams each (D)day
My (G)Mother (D)took his (Bm6)cloudy clothes
To (Am7)brush the (G)threads of (C)dreams a-(G)way.
She'd (C)scold and say "you and your (G)dreams,
They're (Am7)just for (G)kids and(C)fools like (D)you."
But (C)Father he'd just wink his (Em7)eye and (Am7)smile and (G)say "Are you (D)sure that's (G)true?"

Chorus:
My (C)Father taught me how to (Em7)sing. He (Am7)sang that (G)dreams were (C)every-(D)thing,
(C)Can't be bought and can't be (Em7)sold, (Am7)More than (G)silver,(D)more than (G)gold.

The chord I've written as Bm6 actually has an E as well - it looks as if it's fingered X24030.

Something has been nagging at me from earlier in the evening and I've just realised what it was - that Bm6 I put isn't a Bm6 at all (it would have G#). Functionally the chord is Bm, so think of it as a plain Bm with extra E and G.
