08 Sep 05 - 07:58 PM (#1559403) Subject: BS: Rooting for my son... From: Shanghaiceltic My son Ross has an interview today for a job as a sound engineer with a recording studio in Wellington, NZ. He was 20 yesterday so I just hope he gets this as late b'day present. He studied studio management and mixing and music technology at Whitarea College near Wellington and since finishing there has been keeping going by doing drum and bass dj work and some youth radio programs. Not folky or trad I know but hell he has really worked hard on what he does. It is a small indepenedant studio which does a lot of work with Maori based music. Fingers, legs and toes all crossed. |

As it happens, my son is in the same business - this kind of thing has always been a passion with him, and it was obvious from the beginning that his passion and determination was going to carry him through, and it has. He has a responsible and well paid position doing work that he loves. I'll bet your son has that passion and determination too - it's that kind of business. So good luck to him! I hope he gets the job. Jenny |

At any rate, I hope he gets the job. Its always good to work at something you enjoy. It sounds like he has worked hard for the opportunity to use his skills. |

11 Sep 05 - 03:10 AM (#1560849) Subject: RE: BS: Rooting for my son... From: Shanghaiceltic Hey thanks everyone. I just spoke to him and it is decision time for him. He has been offered the job but they want him to do it unpaid for a while and no mention of what a while actually means. He is going to talk to them again on Monday to try and get more precise info. I told him he needs to pin them down and see a contract. The other part of the job will involve a lot of touring early next year, two weeks a month away from Wellington and he knows that will affect the work he does as a d&b dj plus the radio work he is doing. He worries whether the night clubs will hold the existing posts open and ditto the radio show while he is away. He said he is prepared to do dish washing and kitchen work so he can persue his main opportunities but also knows that this SE job would give him experience. Main thing is he needs to be paid for what he does. I'll keep you all up to date. Again many thanks for the warm messages to him I am passing them on. |

11 Sep 05 - 03:33 PM (#1561223) Subject: RE: BS: Rooting for my son... From: Little Robyn Tell Ross it doesn't sound like a good deal to me. Stick to what he's doing until he gets a proper offer - that one's a rip-off. Wellington has more recording studios - find Robbie Duncan and see if he can help. Robyn |
