10 Sep 05 - 10:08 AM (#1560422) Subject: RE: BS: George W Bush Still Rocks! From: GUEST,Jon Tam I get the feeling you are posting on the basis of reading this thread title but without reading the article. Would you agree with Let's say it outright. The truest measure of any president, of any leader, is how well he takes care of his own people. And Bush, well, Bush has done a simply spectacular job of taking care of exactly his own people -- the wealthy, the corporate, the extreme religious right, his core base of supporters [...] ? |

10 Sep 05 - 10:21 AM (#1560427) Subject: RE: BS: George W Bush Still Rocks! From: Amos Great phrases! But it's so unfair, isn't it, to attack poor Dubya like this? Just a little misplaced? After all, Bush has always been the rich white man's president. He is the CEO president, the megacorporate businessman's friend, the thug of the religious right, a big reservoir-tipped condom for all energy magnates, protecting against the nasty STDs of humanitarianism and progress and social responsibility. He has always been merely an entirely selective figurehead, out of touch and eternally dumbfounded, a hand puppet of the neoconservative machine built and fluffed up and carefully placed for the very specific job of protecting their interests, no matter what. Repeat: No. Matter. What. Flood hurricane disaster war social breakdown economic collapse? Doesn't matter. Corporate interests über alles, baby. Protect the core, reassure the base, screw everyone else unless it begins to affect the poll numbers and then finger-point, deflect, prevaricate. All of a piece, really. Because Bush, he was never actually meant to, you know, lead... A |

One of these days his apologists will suddenly see the truth and on that day I wouldn't want to be in their shoes. Hey, I don't even want to be in my shoes. The man is an utter disaster. And we still have three and a half years of him. I shudder to think of what he is capable of given all that time. |

10 Sep 05 - 01:16 PM (#1560522) Subject: RE: BS: George W Bush Still Rocks! From: dianavan Georgie is not half as scary as Cheney. Georgie just gets the kickbacks. If you're going to blame someone, look for the guy hiding in the background. Cheney is the one making fortunes from energy, war and natural disasters. No point in going after Bush. He's just a stooge. |

From: Don(Wyziwyg)T As the country's Chief Executive, he can still give orders, whether his handlers like it or not, and if he had an ounce of integrity, that is exactly what he would do. 10 Sep 05 - 03:09 PM (#1560576) Subject: RE: BS: George W Bush Still Rocks! From: GUEST,Jon I think Dianavan has a point Don. Bush should be held accountable but the whole system seems scarey to me. The one that bothers me the most (altough I haven't seen much mention from US people here so maybe I'm wrong and probably will be told so in a couple of posts) is that Rice woman. In my mind I can see her groomed/grooming herself as next president but instead of someone a bit short of the old grey matter, them having someone with intelligence and I think with the capability of being absolutely ruthless. |

10 Sep 05 - 06:54 PM (#1560676) Subject: RE: BS: George W Bush Still Rocks! From: Don(Wyziwyg)T I hate to say this, but the collapse of the USSR may well have been the greatest disaster of all for the American people. Communism did keep the US, and many other democratic countries focussed on the ideals of democratic government, and without it we seem to be sliding rapidly toward an era of totalitarian rule by corporations which care less for humanity than Hitler ever did. Puppets like George help these people to remain in the background, unaccountable and untouchable. Remove the figurehead and they will have to put their heads above the parapet where they can be shot at (figuratively of course). Any candidate who shows enmity toward Bush and Cheney would seem to be preferrable. Don T. |

10 Sep 05 - 08:04 PM (#1560712) Subject: RE: BS: George W Bush Still Rocks! From: Little Hawk Exactly, Don. I've been saying that ever since about a year after it happened. Without a "loyal opposition" on the World stage to keep them somewhat honest, the rich oligarchs of the West have gone totally out of control in their mad search for yet more riches, and their trashing of our society and its democratic traditions. Russia is now run by the Mafia, and America is now run by something equally evil, and far more powerful...uncontrolled corporatism. The $ySStem has, in fact, gone completely mad. |
|
11 Sep 05 - 10:31 AM (#1561026) Subject: RE: BS: George W Bush Still Rocks! From: Amos Corporatism, and management by corporate methods, is a very poor political system in many ways. The sorry fact is that not a lot of thought has been given to the differences. Those who work for a large corporation -- while they are free not to do so -- are somewhat enchattled by that bond -- their life hangs at the mercy of a bad opinion. We tried to build something better in the American constitution, recognizing that the chaos of human opinion was sometimes volatile and reprehensibly loose in its loyalty to good principle. We tried to address this condition by building the best universal principles of human rights into the COnstitution. Unfortunately, especially under Neo-conservatism, these principles have not been held to their traditional importance, but have been treated as inconvenient after-thoughts, and badly slighted. The vow to uphold the Constitution is almost meaningless in its current context. Anyone who, as Bush does, thinks it should be a vehicle for enforcing moralisms about the nature of private arrangements like marriage is too ignorant of its nature to be entrusted with it. A |
