The Prime Minister of Blues, Norman "Dutch" Mason, received the Order of Canada in Halifax today. Many a night, I listened and cheered.

Thanks Dutch.

That's good news. I remember seeing Dutch on T.V. many years ago playing the organ. Really big sound. He came to my area about seven years ago. I was looking forward to hearing his guitar and keyboard playing. One look at his arthritis crippled hands before he went on told me I was only going to hear him sing. Sing he did, and it was a great show. Congratulations Dutch.

I remember Dutchy when he played the Wyse Owl in Dartmouth, 30 years ago. He could sure tear up the stage.

The photo in today's Globe & Mail had his left (fretting) hand in the foreground; pitiful, you could clearly see how weak and twisted it has become. But he looked healthy, strong and happy.

I last saw Dutch perform 2 years ago .... even though I knew he was sufferring severly and not in the best of shape, I was shocked seeing him being wheeled onto the stage ... even though he was in a wheelchair, he could still hold a beer, smoke, sing and command the band.

He certainly is the Prime Minister of the Blues!
