For any catters in the area -

White Springs Folk Club starts this Saturday at 7.30 pm in the Telford Inn and thereafter each 3rd Saturday of the month. Guests this time are Fay Baird, Jack Beck and Tom and Lee Staley.Their theme will be mostly Irish and Scots.

White Springs is just off I75 between Lake City and Jasper and is the home of the Florida Folk Festival.

Hope to see some of you there,

Jack

If you don't know him, try and get Brendan Nolan to appear. Love the person and personality to boot. Great singer and writer. One day when we can afford it I want to get him up to Quebec and play at our festival.

Hey Beer,

Thanks for the suggestion - we're pretty well fully booked through to April, but I'll certainly bear it in mind for next season.

Word of caution. I've heard Brendan say that he only likes to play in venues that want to hear Irish /Scotch. He said that many places advertise as such but hire rock, country and so on.

Beer: If I understand your warning, I don't think it's much of a problem.   White Springs Folk Club is unlikely to overemphesize rock music. Really, very unlikely.

I think Nolan's a fine musician but I'd like to hear him to less commercial versions and songs than I've heard so far. He's well-known on the Florida circuit.

I'd happily cede (minor, anyway) body parts to be able to get up to the club. Wish I could.

Hi Abby,

I thought it might be a bit far for you, but we will certainly toast you in absentia (that is - raise a glass, and not burn your effigy:).

I would be only too pleased to turn up for a floor spot , with a view to a future booking , but would need some help with travelling expenses . (Its a LONG walk from UK) Best of Luck with the venture !

Hey, Leadfingers - you'd be more than welcome anytime, but as far as travel expenses are concerned, hhhmmmm!

The club is going very well and we anticipate a sell-out on Saturday - so, anyone planning on coming should get there early.

Cheers, Jack

Just back from the night with John Maze, Larre Reeves and Mick Richmond! We were jampacked with around 70 highly enthused folk who heard some great Irish music and songs. It looks as if the club is really on a roll!

Next month it's all happening on the 18th and the guests are The Short Sisters.
