Free Guitar for NO musician

I have a guitar I am willing to give to a New Orleans musician. I will need help from my fellow 'catters as to how to carry this off. How to decide whom to give it to, how to get it there, etc.

(And, he added cynically, "Perhaps the President could donate that guitar that he was receiving whilst ignoring the gathering tragedy down there!)

Good on ya, Saul. WWOZ radio, is a good place to connect with organizations helping out musicians and other folks impacted by the storm.

Some of us who had planned to go down for the Celtic Nations Heritage Festival (of Louisiana) are sending checks for the amount we would have spent on the trip. From here, air fare, room, meals, car; it makes an amount I am happy about writing!

Just in case you missed Poppagator's Katrina "adventure", here's a link to Alive and Well OUT of New Orleans.

I think Bobert may have contact info for him, Saul.

Also, he is without any internet access except through libraries, at the moment. I've left a message for him over on Tweed's Blues Board which he also frequents when he's online.

I hope we hear from him, soon. That's very kind of you to offer.

I saw some info about a group in Austin TX who was working on getting instruments to musicians displaced by Katrina. Apparently many folks
have taken refuge in Austin. Of course i cannot find the specifics right now. I will post when i find the contact info.

Arlo Guthrie is putting together a massive effort to get instruments and equipment together for New Orleans musicians. He's planning on chartering the train "City of New Orleans" and taking it from Chicago to New Orleans collecting donated instruments along the way and playing nightly shows in about a dozen cities. The proceeds from the shows will be used to buy more instruments. I started a thread about it a few days ago HERE.

It'll be one hell of an undertaking if he's able to pull it off. But, hey, if anyone can do it, Arlo can. After all, everybody loves Arlo!
