BS: Happy Birthday, JennyO

She of the rosie cheeks
the ginger hair
and the soft velvet drapes..
mother of earth, yet not with a Father of nativity
but more the softer side of Karl Marx
she whose voice undulates and ululates
and unfolds with wicked tales of witches,
cannibalism and breeches,
unto you, the one and only
JennyO
is it JennyOnly?
JennyOberon's daughter?
or JennyO'the faery folk?
to you I offer
my sweeping cape.
To You my little chicken,
I say, may all your chickens come to roost,
on this day, a Day of Completion and Emergence,
Of sixty circles around the Sun,
a day of fluffy Slippers, or will it be
Slushy Flippers?
as the meat sizzles, i think

Happy Barbie to You, Jenny!

O Jenny!!! I was going to send Steve Irwin and his singing croc round for your birthday party but Steve's in the hospital getting stitches in his ass and the croc has been put down. I asked Steve about getting you some nice shoes and a purse for your birthday but he hasn't PM'd me back yet. Crikey he's a cranky lad!!!

I must admit I did have one of these things last year. However this is a sorta special one. I am following Amos's example and having a 60th birthday this time. I'm sure turning 60 will be relatively painless.

The actual day isn't till next Wednesday, but I figgered because it's special, I'd make it a birthday week.

There's something else about it too. I must admit I will heave a sigh of relief when next Wednesday is over because of a little thing that has been sorta bugging me for a long time. When I was a kid, there was an occasion when my friends and I were mucking around pretending to tell each others' fortunes. For some reason, something that one kid said has always stuck with me and been in the back of my mind, particularly lately. She said I would die when I was 59. Now logic tells me it was just a kid picking a figure out of the air and it doesn't mean anything, but sometimes I've thought - what if I think about it too much and sort of psych myself into it - kinda like pointing the bone? So, silly though it is, I am counting down the days, and I will feel better counting them down here on Mudcat, amongst friends.

Happy birthday JennyO.

I had a similar prediction when I was little that I have always remembered too.
I just want to tell you that it didn't happen.

(I guess I should also mention that the number was 84 - still 30 years away. Sorry.)

Good luck. Have a good barbie.

Four days to go - and counting!

Yes gnu, that kid was probably talking about herself.

Hey Micca, I thought I remembered you were a Libra - we're a pretty cool bunch eh ;-)

And who is Jonti Picking? That's all right - I didn't want a monkey anyway.

For the JennyO who has everything

(I just stumbled on that while searching for something else)

Hippo birdie two ewes.

Oh no, that must be the new Zealand greeting! :-)

Have a lovely Birthday Week.

And, unless that kid went on to make a living out of psychic predictions I wouldn't worry about it too much.

When I was a teenager and going through a large amount of teenage angst I foretold that I would die when I was 28, or if I was still suffering said angst by then I would just jump off a cliff at that age anyway.

Now I say that I did "die" at 28 because my old self was picked up by the collar and shaken like a rag doll, and although things didn't get immediately better they got a lot better later due to events at that time, so it was a kind of "rebirth". So my prediction was kind of true.    (And let me tell you I knew nothing about Saturn Return at the teenage stage but I found out about it when I was 28.)

Foolestroupe,

That is a quote from a greeting card I bought for my mother well over 10 years ago. From memory it was from The Ink Group and it had very small cartoon drawings of ewes, a hippo and deer and the text was:

Hippo Birdie Two Ewes!
Hippo Birdie Two Ewes!
Hippo Birdie Deer Ewe!
Hippo Birdie Two Ewes!

It has been a family joke ever since.

Bobert, you didn't miss it. This is my birthday week! I'm having a BBQ today and a session on Wednesday, and the actual day is next Wednesday, the 28th. I figgered since it's a big one (60), I should have a whole week. Dunno about being peaceful though. Ya got any more of that peace layin' around somewhere? I could use some.

Hello 2003 Santa and 2004 Santee - thankyou for the lovely thoughts and wishes!

Well, I'm just getting warmed up. We had a nice relaxing BBQ yesterday with some friends and family. I was thinking of Charlie and Brett and the BBQ we had when they were here - BBQ's in Earlwood always seem to bring on wind and rain, so after days of lovely sunny weather, yesterday was true to form, being windy and somewhat bleak - at least the rain held off till just as we were clearing away!

Anyway, on Wednesday night, which is the REAL day of my birth, we're having a birthday shanty session on the James Craig, so our voices will be echoing round the harbour and bouncing off the buildings near Darling Harbour. I wonder if there will be any birthday shanties?

Some mudcatters gave me some very fine moving shanties a couple of years ago, and I wouldn't mind at all if someone came up with a birthday shanty or two (hint hint :-))

Why I am not at JennieO's Birthday bash
(with profound apologies to John Warner!!)
We filled a ute right up with Beer
--And Headed for you , Jennie?
And from Kings Cross we North steer
Till those Bass ales they wrecked us here

Cho: But JennieO don't worry, look
The Beer and ale have left me crook.
There's naught to do but sit out here,
And watch the moon, the lonely moon,
Light the chunder of dark Bass beer

We lost our way, ran out of fags.
--And where are you, oh Jennie?
The heat has turned our clothes to rags.
So we had cold one from the bags.

The Bass Ale poured out of my nose
--And where are you, oh Jennie?
and flowed all over someone's rose
Our absence made Jennie morose

We're out of Gas, no Towing Chain
. And where are you, oh Jennie
we're stuck out here by the Town Drain
And here we are and here remain.

We'll think of you aboard the Craign on Wednesday!

Of course you all realise we will have to sing these birthday shanties on the James Craig on Wednesday night!

Micca, I'll show your song to John when he gets home tonight. I think he'll get a big chuckle out of it - he might even forgive you ;-) I was tinkering with it myself around hurricane time, using the line "And where are you, Miami?" but it's still a work in progress.

Charlie, I was following that thread about the Portsmouth Festival, so I knew you and Brett were there. Must have been good to be singing together again after so long! Of course it would have been better for me if you'd been here. You missed another grey and windy Earlwood BBQ on Sunday (of course it was warm and sunny the day before). However, a good time was had by all, and we still have Wednesday to look forward to, to complete my birthday week. We'll be sure to raise a glass for you!

Micca and Chanteyranger, John and I both love your birthday shanties, and I have printed them out to sing tomorrow night.

Yep, just one day to go, and I'm still here! Actually technically here in Oz, it's already the 28th, so I guess I can forget that silly girl's prediction, and get on with enjoying the rest of my life!

Refreshing this for the last time - being at the end of my birthday week. It's the 29th here now.

We had a fantastic session on the James Craig. It was the biggest crowd I've ever seen there! As well as all but one of the Roaring Forties, there were lots of other good singers, and a Morris side - Black Joak Morris (I think John was responsible for them - he knows I like them). John sang both the birthday shanties, which led to someone asking me to sing Micca's "The Hash my Father Scored", which went down very well with those who hadn't heard it before, and later John sang the real "Anderson's Coast". Black Joak Morris danced on the deck, there was a lovely chocolate and cream birthday cake with strawberries, and some nice prezzies. What a great night!

I took some photos with my new digital camera (courtesy of my son). Now all I have to do is figure out where to put them so I can let people see them - it's a big learning curve at the moment.

So that's it for another year, and the spectre of the number 59 is gone forever. Bring on the next 40 years!!!

Jenny
