El Greko live & interview on the net

On Frank Hennessy's last Saturday Celtic Heartbeat show from BBC Radio Wales - a 40 minute interview where I bare my soul (or bear my sole) and some songs played live, plus a sneak preview of the latest song, "Anytown" from the coming 6th album, very roughly mixed and without sexy sax and leccy guitar, but with Miranda Sykes' rollicking bass lines.

Click on the link - it will be there till next Saturday - and the intervierw starts around 57 minutes from the start of the show.

Listened to it George and decided to try 'Emptyhanded' at the Sheffield sing last night (25th) some other catters there said I did the song well. It's a belter or a 'wee stoater'of a song.

What an excellent interview! Not only that but George got to play (my favorite) "Empty Handed" as well as "Anytown" and a wonderful song, the title of which I believe may have been "Walk on the Bottom of the Sea". This last was a song George wrote about his native Greece where hard hat diving for sponges was once a common yet often deadly occupation. The song perfectly depicts the many inherent dangers involved. Good job, George! I hope to hear all of these songs and more at the Getaway.

I just listened to it all too and what a great showcase for you George. Frank really did you proud - and you weren't bad either!!!
Shame the connection kept cutting and fading and timing out - o the joys of dial-up...
Allan C - the song about the sponges is Johnny Don't Go Walking With The Fishes. Check out El G's website and go buy the CD!
MCFat - shame I missed your Emptyhanded at Sheffield on Sun. I've sung it there meself a few months ago (and at the Red Deer), so that may explain how Sheffield folks knew it.
Great song - but then there's such an embarrassment of riches in the GP Songbook ain't there?
I've been trying out Anytown too, but not sure it works unaccompanied (yet). (Loved the rough mix with Miranda on the broadcast though - and just wait till you hear the full arrangement on El Greko's new CD - awesome.....)
