26 Sep 05 - 08:33 AM (#1570800) Subject: Tech: Searching!!! From: GUEST,Dazbo I started a couple of threads last week about importing and instrument to the UK for the EU and whether anyone has any opinions on instruments made by Guiseppe Janni or Polverini. Having been away from the pc for five days I've tried to find them to see if any kind soul out there had added any replies to my query. The don't appear in the list so I did searches on the threads and each time they weren't (if there was any result in the search) there. I was definitely doing a search on words that appeared in each thread. Am I doing something wrong or does mudcat have a habit of loosing threads? Darren |

IF you had posted as a member, you would have been able to simply click on your name in another thread to fetch a listing of all of your posts, leading you to the threads you seek. Click on Breton Cap's name above and you will see what I mean. Membership is free and has not strings attached and many more benifits than you might imagine. |

26 Sep 05 - 08:43 AM (#1570810) Subject: RE: Tech: Searching!!! From: Jeri If you posted to a thread, you can click on your name in the message header (not in the list of messages at the top). It will give you a list of all the messages you posted to using that name. Here's Tech: Importing to UK from EU and Review: Guiseppe Janni and Polverini |

26 Sep 05 - 08:59 AM (#1570818) Subject: RE: Tech: Searching!!! From: GUEST,Jon It might also help to understand the searches. The froum filter searches on the thread title. The "old adv forum" search searches subjects heading. The "Lyrics and Knowledge search" searches on the message bodies but I'm not sure it has been updated lately. Alan is wrong about the name next to "From" having to come from a member. It works for guests too. The only complication as long as a consistant name is uses, is that if you had posted both as "GUEST, Dazbo" and (member) Dazbo and clicked on a link for "GUEST, Dazbo", your member posts would not be found on that search. |

From: GUEST,Jon Should have added, that limitation can be overcome by using the old adv search (http://www.mudcat.org/forumsearch.cfm where you could simply type in "Dazbo" in "UserName" and retrieve any post (member or guest) made by someone with "Dazbo" in the name. |
