9/26/1580: Drake completes 1st circumnavigation of the globe by an Englishman (returning with ½ million £ of treasure)
         Then came the Lord Chamberlain with his white staff
        And all the people began to laugh;
        And then the Queen began to speak:
        'You're welcome home, Sir Francis Drake.'

                World, &c," Oxford Book of Sea Songs, Roy Palmer

Drake, whose name was used as the boogeyman's to frighten little children in Spain. Well up to the 1930s I believe.
