Musicians nights, in and around Hull

Hi everyone

I am composing a listing of open mic/folk clubs/general musicians sessions, in and around the Hull area. ( Yes Sttaw, I finally got round to doing it!!) It will be published on www.thisisull.com and updated whenever necessary, hopefully.

I already have a list courtesy of Sttaw, I am wondering if there have been any new musicians nights recently that I might not know about? If so, or if anyone knows of any in the making, please could you let me know and I will include it.

I don't go out of Hull much so am not too aware of anything happening in the outskirts - but for Beverley I have got the following listed: Monks Walk, the Sun, Forresters Arms, Woolpack, Oddfellows. Any more to add?
I also know about The Bull in Barton and the Processed Pea in Etton? but thats about all I have for surrounding areas.

Any info appreciated folks.

Thanks

Hodgesons, Beverley. Last sunday in the month. Its the same perripatetic session that alternates between the Sun, Monks Walk and Hodgesons. Monks on the first Sunday, Hodgesons on the last Sunday and the others in the Sun.....or at least that was the last I heard! ;-)

Could you give a few more details of what you already have? Some of these things change on an almost weekly basis and its very easy for information to get out of date. Will try and confirm anything you have from my own knowlege and hopefully others will do the same. Great idea by the way.

Thanks for that Bassic. Where is Hodgesons in Beverley? I've never heard of it.

For Folk sessions in Hull I've got Black Boy on Mondays, and the Oberon on Fridays, is that correct and are there any more pub sessions going?

I have one listed for the Kingston Hotel on Cumberland Street, is that still going? Also Sharkeys on a Saturday afternoon,Tap and Spile Tuesday, Editorial Wednesday?

Ta very much

Hodgesons is big pub on Flemingate in Beverley.......next to Beverley Leisure Centre and opposite the entrace to the former Army Transport Museum.

Oberon is Last Friday of the month only as far as I know. Think the Kingston session is now defunct since Graham and Joe moved to Beverley. They now run one there on a Friday night in the Sun. The others are not ones that I usually go to so others will have to confirm those details. There is an open mike type thing at The Duke of Wellington? off Spring Bank on thursday nights, it used to be weekly and run by King Rollo and Keith Gaye but I think they are not doing it so often and there has been a change of Landlord recently so its probably worth ringing to check whats happening there. Will add more as it comes to mind.

Wellington Inn, 'Stripped' acoustic night, Thursdays; Cottingham Folk Club at Northern Foods club, Wednesdays; Buskers Ball, Durty Nellies, Tuesdays; The George, Thursdays; Hull Folk Club, Marlborough Social Club, not sure which days; Adelphi, Mondays; Spring Bank Tavern, Wednesdays; Polar Bear, Wednesdays; Jaz Bar, Weds and Sundays; Sailmakers (Jazz) Sundays; Jazz at the YPI, Chants Ave, some Wednesdays (I can always find out about the jazz- I have Martin 'Mad Dog' Jones as a neighbour).

Cheers . FOTH

I'd be very interested as I have promised to go over there and contribute backing guitar to a young lady singer who sounds very promising on recordings and I know she would be interested in singing at some local (to her)open nights. We have already fixed up a couple of appearances at local(for me thats Nottingham) open mic nights.

so keep this one going if you know ANYTHING, please.........

It would be an idea to distinguish which venue has what sort of music. ie., turning up for a 'sing-a-round' when it's an open mic acoustic session would be a dissapointment, and so on. Many of the folkies are not that familiar with Hull's many open mic nights due to the differing styles of musicians that turn up who play anything but folk music. It's great to have the variation but the distinctions need to be listed.

Yes I was going to do the listing by genre. And make the distinction between trad folky nights and 'acoustic' nights.

'Stripped' at the Wellington Inn sounds interesting (good name too- though it could lead to false ideas amongst the local pervs). I believe Harri Watts are gracing their stage this coming Thursday?

Indeed they are!! What a vision of loveliness they will provide for us all too! Does King Rollo still run this session?

Ah! I am confused now about the two Wellys. (Or should that be Wellies). I thought they were one and the same. The only Welly pub I know is the Peel street one.

What musicians nights does the other Welly (Russell Street) run? Sttaw Legend, pray tell..

PS. 'Stripped' ad is up and well on www.thisisull.com.

I think the other Welly is near the old School of Architecture, round the back of The Lamp.
