Anyone have the words? I learned the "All Around My Hat" parody from Judy Cook: "I'm going to kill my cat And smother him with my pillow. He pissed upon my hat And for that he has to pay. But I'm not in to cruelty So when I'm through dissecting it I'm going to send the pieces to the ASPCA." I vaguely remember this song. It's about a pair of cats chasing each other around the house late at night, jumping on the bed and awakening the humans. |

Back in the early 1980's, one of those sponsors was Bertha's Kitty Boutique in the 'Dales, and they would advertise products intended to appeal to cat owners. Occasionally, the ads would feature samples from the "Songs of the Cat Songbook," which were all spoofs of famous songs rewritten with a cat theme. "Cat Town Races," a spoof (naturally) of "Camptown Races," was one of those songs. |

There are other songs, mostly with classical tunes, like Sheep may safely graze, which has become Cats may safely sleep (I heard Vern Sutton sing that one on the radio during one live broadcast.)
