BS: Gotta new puppy, named it Gromette

Crackin toast, she is a little cutie (all black with white; shoes, beard and star on her chest).
I Dunno if she's going to be medium or huge.
Her mom was a Border Collie and her dad was a mixed Rotweiller, German Shepard etc. Her litter sister looked much beefier and fluffier with clear Rotwieller and Sheperd markings.

I'm doing the house training thing in the linoleum room.
I think I will build a robo-poo-scooper-P-sponge.

Dean has wanted a dog for 3 years now. He said a very strange thing yesterday. He said when he was still inside mommy he had a puppy and has wanted a dog ever since.
He went on to say "Now we need another dog so we can have butt sniffing contests".

Dean is finally back in school. The original records were found Monday and a non cellular NON Thimerisol (mercury) DPT was given.

I believe I will now have a spot of cheese.

Congrats Donuel on the new member of your family .... we just got a new greyhound (small female) last week we call Heidi. A new pal for our other grey called Otis.

Donuel...Congratulations! Sounds like a nice mix to me. Rosie The Wonder Dog has big long hair Scottish collie, springer, and coyote in her. Looks a bit like a Border Collie, and just as smart.

I too would like to see pictures.

Peace, Mooh.

Pchers, yeah, I want some pichers.

Did I mention that I got a new grommet? Haven't named it yet, though.

We lost one of our girls a couple of months ago and now the other one is going too, she has cancer but still wags and eats, no sight, and no hearing left but she gets around. No doubt we will get a replacement in time and we'll be minding our pees and poos again. Good luck with Gromette Donuel.

Thanks for the pictures - she's a real cutie. Our border collie, Meg, is seven months old now (and still cute). You can see her here
Keep the pictures coming!

Nice pics Sooz. I love the one where she appears to be howling as you play the squeeze box. They're all critics. My Bernise Lab X (Seamus) howls when I play the tin whistle. Maybe he knows something I don't. Well done Donuel happy puppy training.

She is howling - I think its because she doesn't know the words!

Oh, Donuel - those pics took me back - Grommette is the image of my very bestest boy ever -including my husband! I got him (Chester) on 2nd January 1991, aged 3 months, from the local naughty dogs home, and he passed away on Boxing Day 2004. I still cry and miss hm tremendously - he was the absolute spit of yours. He was a collie lab cross, with a bit of terrier thrown in for bloody-mindedness!

I do have a new boy - a border collie called Beau - bit of a woos / wuss (?) - but beautiful. Ches is still with me though - every day.

I'd post some pics of our new grey Heidi ... but she got at my Nikon 5700 digital camera and chewed it .... needless to say, I currently do not possess a functioning digital camera.

Just to clarify, so people don't get the wrong idea - Beau is called that because he is so gangly and bendy - it's actually an affectionate term for LongBeau! (as in longbow - or perhaps because he's so daft, as in Bimbeau?)

We adopted a large pup (six months) last month to keep our other larger pup (est. 12 to 18 months) company. We're still working out behavior and territorial things. The new pup jumps a lot, and the other one got tired of it and now drags her off of people and the gate and the door. Sometimes by the collar, sometimes by the leg or scruff of the neck. I'm hoping to convince both of them to relax before someone gets hurt. :)

Sooz your border collie is super. I wasn't real sure what they looked like. Now I can say that Gromette's sister looked almost all border collie.

btw
the best puppy training advice we got was to put the dog in a large carrier when in the house at night and let her out in the middle of the night and early moring to train bladder and bowel control.

She never messes in the carrier.

Sooz, she's a doll, too! IN that one close up of her face she's got Jack Nicholson eyebrows and that same look he gets, where one is raised higher than the other!**bg**

Our McNab Border Collie which they say is not really a Border Collie, though all are traced back to a sire named "Hemp" brought over to California from Scotland, is about 11 years old now and still as vigilant as ever, always anticipating a job to do. Though from the looks of these pix he does *rest* a lot. He really does get out and exercise, truly. Have to admit, though, his biggest job the past two years has been "clean up in aisle 5" after the grandson. My sister, who hadn't seen him in over a year walked in the other day and told him he looked "fuller"...he is not fat, I can still feel his ribs!

He is very intense but not hyper like a lot of border collies, which I like. I've never had such an intelligent and obedient dog. He was housebroken when I ofund him at about 1 year old, but we trained him with a kennel for at night, though not shut, and for when he was "in the doghouse." It was where he could go and know that it was safe and he was off-duty so could leave the cats, etc. alone. All I had to do was say "Go to bed." Still do, but now it really si just a dog bed.

The best training book I've ever read is the "Invisible Leash" written by Milani, Myrna, DVM. It came out in 1986 and there are readily available used copies at alibris and other sites. I've leant it out several times and everyone was quite happy with it.

One of the best training aids she suggests is a soda pop can with a couple of pennies in it with tape over the opening. Rattle to get the dog/cat's attention when behaving badly. She even says if they are esp. stubborn, you can throw it at their backlaegs as it is light weight and will not harm them. All I have to do is shake it and Merlee goes to his bed. To fit it in my pocket, though, so it is readily availavle, I have used a small fuse case which is just right for a couple of pennies.

Have fun, Donuel and everyone with new family members.

Giok, my sympathies in your recent loss and the declining health of your other grrl.

Blowzabella...our now-departed cat was named Beau after Beau Geste. I like the variation of longbow!

Well, as the President of the US branch of the Meg Fan Club, I must say that I agree she is the prettiest and most amazing dog in the UK. She gets lovelier every day and week that goes by.

Meg has many fans here in the USA. I sent her photo all around and wise surprised to see a friend had it as his avatar on a site we both use! he's since changed it mind you, to some other dog. He's fickle. I'm not. I love Meg.

I think Meg should put out a wall calender. I'd pay $18 US for that. I like the action photos of Meg running on the beach best. those and the ones of her as a very widdle Meg sleeping in her blue bed thing.

Meg grew out of the blue bed thing some weeks ago. Now she sleeps on our bedroom floor until she can find a place on the duvet. She isn't allowed under it!
Like Grommette she likes a pillow.

So, Meg's too big for her baby bed? Awww. My Alsatian isn't supposed to sleep on the bed either, but he does!

I miss the time when he was about the size Meg is now and could make himself all skinny and fit between me and Dave on the bed. Now he's 87 pounds and far too big to fit between us. maybe wee need to get a kingsize bed.

Here's my Puppers:

The best-looking Alsatian in The USA - I dare you not to look

And here he is sacked out on the bed

so, does he give Meg a run for her money in the good-looking doggie dept?

I stood quietly in the doorway this morning watching my two big pups race around the yard in a mad dash, circling the garden, past the big hackberry tree, around some shrubs, leaping over a low pile of stones, across the patio, around and around, the new catahoula occasionally snapping at the flanks in her pursuit of the pitbull. They had a great time, and when they saw me, they came padding up to the door, tongues lolling, tails wagging. This joy of the race never would have happened if there weren't two dogs together. I would see the pit do occasional short bursts when she was by herself, but this was a good all-out dog romp. Good thing we have a big back yard.

Sooz...

Here's another picture of my Puppers with the young daughter of a friend. They both look so beautiful in this photo. This is one of the few photos of him where he isn't wearing that "laughing dog' face.

Puppers & Jaelita

Funny thing is, even though Puppers is fixed (neutered), he has a little harem at the dog park of young female dogs that always greet him and hang out with him. He really likes the ladies!

Here's Puppers getting in touch with his inner Wolf:

Puppers crouching down and invoking his invisibilty powers

And here he is looking all sweet and adorable in our front yard:

Puppers taking it easy in the shade

So, I rest my case:
He IS the handsomest Alsatian in the USA. Anyone care to try and knock him down to Number 2? if so, provide photographic evidence of YOUR handsome Alsatain! (j/k)

He and Meg would make a cute couple if I do say so myself.

My brother had a cat that would fetch. It needed to be 'aroused' by teasing it for a while, chasing a stick held in the hand around the yard first. It would then fetch a stick thrown a few feet away. I witnessed it drag a 10 foot long newly cut tree branch thru a cat door (at the back of the cleaning cupboard and thru that door as well) into the hall then mew for somebody to keep playing.

This is the cat I found head down, eyes closed, tongue working like a toy, up to the ears in a cup of egg yolks left over after making a pavlova. Picked it off the bench, put it on the floor, it didn't notice it had been moved for a few minutes...

This cat would also eat dead matchsticks...

I'm not making this up you know, I'm not that clever...
