Congratulations to John Banville on winning the Booker Prize for his novel "The Sea". According to organizers he won out over one of the strongest set of contending novels in recent years.

Did he write it in English?

Another nail in the coffin of the 'all British are anti-Irish' loonies. The Booker is Britain's most prestigious literary award.

I'm delighted that John Banville won the Booker. He was born and reared in Wexford's historic street The Faythe about 100 yards from where yours truely was also born, reared and still lives.

If there is one thing guarenteed to put me off reading a book it is winning a 'prestigious' literary award. Every one I have tried to read has left me cold and generally unfinished.
