I hope people might plan to attend this event if it involves travelling.Utah is a national (international!) treasure as a champion of the International Workers of the World, (IWW) He is filled with storiesand songs . see www.utahphillips.com for more info...the sub-title of his web site is Utah Phillips:A Short Jog Through A Long Memory he has had a syndicated radio show Loafer's Glory: The Hobo Jungle of the Mind, which is filled with historical information and features a wide variety of musical selections including rare field recordings.
Calling himself The Golden Voice of the Great Southwest, he has served as master of ceremonies at many events, including the Kate Wolf Memorial Festival. He has performed with many other musicians, including Rosalie Sorrells, and a group called Rose Tatoo, some of whom are mud catters...perhaps we will hear more from them??

By the way Mike, that's INDUSTRIAL WORKERS OF THE WORLD, international would be a bit redundant! And by all means, catch the show. In the 36 years I've known him I never seen him do a bad show.

I was going through the Utah recordings I have and found some wonderful performers who have "covered" his songs, including Kate Wolf, Jody Stecher and Kate Brislin, Faith Petric, Special Concensus (blue grass band) and Rosalie Sorrels, both from recent recordings, and a treasure from Folk Legacy records from 1967.

He is a true believer in independant radio, and I am happy to have a station I.D. from him where he proclaims that we should take back the airwaves!!

If you can come or encourage someone you know to do so, that would be great!! We will be having him come to Chico in one month.

Can anyone explain to me the box on the table and the small figurine? They seem to travel with him.

He invited me to become a member of the Rose Tattoo. It involves getting a tattoo which, even as a sailor, I have resisted. Gotta think on this one.

Don't let him ever make me that offer, Cap'n. I will have it done that night.

One of the real heroes. I wish you well on the concert and wish I could be there to see it.

In Solidarity,

Mick

Utah's performance here is coming up soon.

I have tickets available if anyone is
interested. I will have them at the
Chico farmer's market on Nov. 26,
at the KRBS crafts fair in
Oroville in Dec. 3, and at the
Butte Folk Music Society acoustic jam
on Dec. 3 in Chico, just before the concert.
