Happy Birthday!

Singer / songwriter (many)/ mill worker,

Dorsey Murdock Dixon

born 10/14/1897
(d.Apr 17, 1968)
Who did you say it was brother?
Who was it fell by the way?
When whiskey and blood run together
        Did you hear anyone pray?

"Wreck on the Highway," written by Dorsey in late 1937
after a serious road accident near Rockingham [NC]
It was originally recorded under the title "Didn't Hear Nobody Pray"
             [thanx Manfred Helfert

One of the hazards of having an unusual name: the author is listed as Dorothy Dixon on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Bands first "Circle" album, at least for the first pressing. Maybe by now it's been corrected.

Holy Cow! Non-music, but the 14th is the birthdate for Margaret Thatcher and Mahatma Gandhi.

Ewan MacColl, IIRC, wrote a song about Maggie.

The Happy file only finds "The Iron Lady," by Ian Robb. A Falklands war protest.
