BS: Is Blair mad?

05 Nov 05 - 05:40 PM (#1598294)
Subject: BS: Is Blair mad?
From: akenaton

Just been reading an article on Blair and the huge amount of legislation that he intends to force onto the Statute book.

The author contends that Blair has gone mad in his search for the illusive "legacy", and intends to destroy the Labour party..or at least make it unelectible after he steps down.

The ensuing chaos would make Blair's reign seem like a "golden age", of Labour rule and pave the way for a possible return once the stench of Iraq had died away.

Any ideas ...Ake

There is a push to pass 'conservative' (by that I mean repressive) legislation all over the world. I do not think Britain will be exempt from that effort, Ake. Wish it would, but I just don't think so. Seems over the years that social programs--those that help poor people, folks who are unwell, etc., have been under attack. I fully expect we'll see the day when individuals our age will be expected to terminate our lives so we can stop being burdens. Governments could save BIG bucks if they just got rid of us. Not the wealthy old ones--we couldn't have that. But the less than wealthy who can no longer afford medical care, etc. The idea has bee broached in many sci-fi stories. It used to be interesting reading when I was a teenager. Now, . . .

Illusive could also be applied to Blairs quest..A

Nope. Disagree. Your premise requires the entirety of the Labour party to be stupid enough not to see this happening. You've seen this as a possibilitly, therefore... We must presume that enough others have...

I wouldn't dispute the point that Blair's ego is running fairly freely (not actually out of control, because his parliamentary majority isn't large enough to allow such), but that's another issue.

No, Blair's not mad, but he is a very crafty politician. 'Nuff said.

the majority of the Labour Party were quite stupid enough to be unelectable throughout the falklands, the miners strike, years of unemployment screwing up a couple of generations, the green shoots of recovery, ad nauseam and etc.

I think Blair's success is the only thing that holds them together - much in the same way that Thatcher's success held down and suppressed all the best politicians, and voices of disonance in her own party - leaving only the lickspittle yesmen to succeed.

the tories in power would have been just as gung ho for these military adventures. I think maybe our'special relationship' with America makes us inevitable allies.

dunno if he's mad, has anybody heard ever him play that guitar, or is it a fashion accessory. bloody Bill Clinton was always whipping out his saxophone, but then again HE gave Rambling Jack Eliot the congressional medal of honour. that's a class act.

Perhaps Blair will give Derek Brimstone the Iron cross with oakleaves or something.

and you're right I can't spell disonance, but I'm not looking it up just for you lot.

I'm not sure that Blair's mad but I reckon that the voters are for letting him back in.

He is obsessed with leaving a memorial to himself.

Which may mean his heart problems were more serious than we were told.

I see no reason why he would wish his party to be unelectable after his retirement. He might of course wish the Labour party to be unelectable since the thing he leads is in no way socialist.

Blair has always been a devotee of the cult of celebrity, he pretends to espouse populism, but is in reality an elitist, as Richard rightly states ....obsessed by his "legacy".

Blair would like to be remembered as a radical who changed the world.
A man who put in place policies which defined the way forward, but unfortunately for him, most people will associate his craven support for Bush and his denial of the horrific consequences of his Iraq policy as a more valid measure of the man.

I have thought for some time that Blair has lost touch with reality.
Surely he must have known the dangers of invasion...but these dangers to our troops, our civilian population and the effect of strengthening the cause of Islamic Fundamentalism, always came second to his dream of glory as the "warrior prince".

This week we have seen Blunkett falling on his sword over relatively minor misdemeanours while we retain in office a prime minister who dragged us into an unjust and illegal war, through "delusions of grandure".
He is now attempting to deprive us of our civil liberties ..(the Wolfgang affair is an example of the world our leader would like to see), introduce ID cards, which would oblige us to pay for the priviledge of being spied on, and create a two tier society, with quality of health care and education based on ability....too pay!!

I believe that Blair is indeed mad, and knows that pushing these policies will tear the Labour party apart and leave a weakened vehicle for Brown
Alastair Campbell once tagged Brown as "psychologically flawed", but the flaw seems to run right to the top...Ake

The fact that Blair seems to be attempting to establish a new World Record for the quantity of legislation introduced under one leader, while having signally failed to introduce ONE intelligently drafted act, bodes ill for the future of British jurisprudence.

As this country is approaching the level of litigiousness that has existed in the USA for many years, it seems more and more likely that any remaining vestige of personal freedom will disappear in the not too distant future.

Tony's legacy may well be a country so oppressed and restricted by statute, that no citizen will feel safe to get out of bed in the morning for fear of offending against some obscure and ill conceived government ordinance.

And all of this in a country whose legal system is the model for virtually every democracy in the world.

History is going to have little good to say about the bastard IMHO.

I don`t think he is mad but I do think he is most cunning and conniving.

As in the words of a famous Pete-St. John song (The Mero)

"They say his nose is brown".

Could that possibly come from an overdose of visiting and licking up to his brainless bosom friend George?

Finally, Weelittledrummer states the following:

"bloody Bill Clinton was always whipping out his saxophone" but was that the only instrument he was always whipping out?

Michael Portillo writing in todays Sunday Times seems to concur on Blair's mental condition.

Here is a section from his article, but don't forget YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!!

"I fear that the prime minister has become unhinged. He has always tended towards being messianic. Now he is more convinced than ever that he is right and everyone else wrong. Neither the views of parliament nor the home secretary count for anything. He courts unpopularity, outrages his supporters and has lost his instinct for survival. Logic plays little part in his calculations and economics none."

"As recently as last summer I, like many others, believed that Blair was the man to lead Britain in a crisis. The alternative was Gordon Brown, once famously described by a Blair aide as "psychologically flawed". While I do not dispute that description of the chancellor, the prime minister's psychiatric advantage over his rival is clearly narrowing."

I've always sort of automatically assumed that all politicians are just the puppets of more powerful, but unseen, forces. The most obvious candidate is Big Business but perhaps it's the Mafia or the Illuminati - who knows?
I also imagine that soon after Blair was elected he was invited into some room somewhere and told, by persons unknown, just what was expected of him and what he could and couldn't do.

But then I'm just paranoid ... and they're coming to get me!!!!

"Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men's views confided to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the U. S., in the field of commerce and manufacturing, are afraid of somebody, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they had better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it."

Interesting statement coming from a President of the United States.

The President was Wilson and he said that in 1913. Sorry, Ake. I should have made that clear. However, the present guy in the White House has used the term "New World Order". He likely thinks he made it up.

At least Blair is an honest liar. I mean, he's obviously aware that we all know he's a liar, and he continues unashamedly to do it, demonstrating great consistency. At least you know where you are with him.

The other evil twat, likely to succeed him, is a blatantly dishonest liar. He is just as consistent in his lying, but pretends he's not doing it - how can you trust anyone like that? How could anybody ever vote him in?

But I bet the stupid bastards do.

I think Tony Blair has infiltrated this thread. he has employed a nom de plume, or nom de keyboard.

just look down that list. who is the villain? under which mass of verbiage is he crouching?

he is frightened that his whereabouts will be discovered, and one of us will go BOOO! and surprise him.

I can smell his fear.
