All eight members up for re-election to the Pennsylvania school board that had been sued for introducing the teaching of intelligent design as an alternative to evolution in biology class were swept out of office yesterday by a slate of challengers who campaigned against the intelligent design policy.
...
The election results were a repudiation of the first school district in the nation to order the introduction of intelligent design in a science class curriculum.

I cheered when I heard this news; Kansas was such a disappointment, I figured the whole species was sliding into the Neanderthal time-zone at a mad clip.

Except that Penny was far from the first state to attempt to do this, if one accepts that "Intelligent Design" is just another name for "Creationism." Several states now do have "anti-evolution" dictates in their "standard curricula."

Kansas attempted to do it, I believe in 1999, requiring the teaching of "Creationism as an alternate theory" or some such along that line. Elections and a new school board eliminated it then, and hopefully the same will happen again - but one never knows.
