09 Nov 05 - 12:48 PM (#1600767) Subject: Tune Add: Dutch treat From: GUEST,leeneia Recently we had a hot discussion going about the Dutch tune "In Babilone." Masato kindly provided a link to a site which has pdf's of tunes from the same book that it came from, and I have been trying out the tunes. If all goes well, Joe will post another tune from that book. The book was called Oude en Nieuwe Hollantse Boerenlieties en Contredansen, c. 1710 and the site was http://members.home.nl/simonplantinga/hbc/hbc1101.html, (If that doesn't work, I shall have to find the link from the In Babilone thread.) the new tune is called die Nonne med ?. I think this means "The Nun with...", but I can't read the next word, and even if I did I don't know Dutch. So if somebody could figure this title out from Simon's site, it would be a boon to all. The tune is a sexy little number, mostly in the belly-dance minor but with a modern little interval in the middle so that the musicians could show they know what's what. Finding this kind of thing is one of the joys of poking around in the world of early music. The gang is going to love this. Click to play |

I'm trying to find out where you see the title to this particular tune. Your link leads to Book 11, Page 1 - and I don't see mention of a "Nonne" on that page. Great tune, though - but I don't picture myself belly-dancing to it. -Joe Offer- |

Try this page: http://members.home.nl/simonplantinga/hbc/hbc/0601.html That should be the page for Boek 6 Pagina 1. The nun song is the second one on the page. You will note that the original was in the key of F (Dm, to be precise.) I never said the nun was belly-dancing, I just said the tune was in the belly-dance minor. That's the minor that makes people say "ooh la la!" |

When you get there just scroll down 120 screenfuls or so till you come to the Ns, where you will find: de Nonne met de munnik kap which I presume is some sort of cap (Munich cap??) |

I must check this out. When I listened to the MIDI (above) just now, it seemed to me that it's a little slower than the ideal. However, that does make it easier to apprehend the first time around. |

Not even any Dutch speakers want to chip in. I guess I should have put "Martin" or "Gibson" in the title so guys could wrangle about whose instrument is better. Some days I seriously wonder how many Mudcatters actually play music. |
