24 Oct 05 - 10:13 PM (#1590190) Subject: RE: Mudcat FAQ - Newcomer's Guide From: GUEST,Early 1900 women singers In the 1980's I lived in NC and Virginia where I heard about a family from the early 1900's that sang very simple songs but also very soulful. The name started with an H I thought it was Hanson Family but find nothing under that name Does anyone know of a directory that lists the names of old groups. I would call them either appalacian or blue ridge mountain musiciana. Sad songs mostly. Tnank you for any assistance in this search. I don't recall a lot of musical instrumentaion, mostly just the singing. Diana |

13 Nov 05 - 05:53 PM (#1604051) Subject: RE: Hanson Family - singers From: GUEST,Russ The Hammons family was not a group or band. They made no commercial recordings. The two CD set from the LOC, "The Hammons Family: The Traditions of a West Virginia Family and Their Friends", has a number of tracks of Maggie Hammons Parker singing unaccompanied. |
