Hanson Family - singers

In the 1980's I lived in NC and Virginia where I heard about a family from the early 1900's that sang very simple songs but also very soulful. The name started with an H I thought it was Hanson Family but find nothing under that name Does anyone know of a directory that lists the names of old groups. I would call them either appalacian or blue ridge mountain musiciana. Sad songs mostly. Tnank you for any assistance in this search. I don't recall a lot of musical instrumentaion, mostly just the singing.    Diana

I transferred this message from the FAQ. I thought I saw a CD from the Hammons Family, but I can't find mention of it. My memory is failing, so thank Heaven for Google. didn't work for me this time, though.

The Hammons family was not a group or band. They made no commercial recordings.

The two CD set from the LOC, "The Hammons Family: The Traditions of a West Virginia Family and Their Friends", has a number of tracks of Maggie Hammons Parker singing unaccompanied.
