The sad old bird who has been inflicting the same old songs on us for years even had the cheek to complain to the camera about how many times she had to hear these songs being sung...........

As an American, I feel the need to apologize for our exporting Madonna to Britian and regret the pain and suffering she is causing in your fine land.

However, you may just want to consider it a payback for the Austin America.

Ok...my age is about to show, but I grew up with Madonna being at the top of the charts. I don't know a thing about her husband or how exactly the name Madonna and folk idol fit in the same sentence. I do know that I loved her music when I was younger and still find myself singing along whenever I hear it. It's not folk music, but there are still many of us who have loved her music over the years.

Speaking of Madonna and Folk Music.. does anybody have a copy of the song 'Seraphim' that she used as the basis of her song 'Ray of Light'? I believe it came out on an LP in 1972. I heard a snippet of it on some American TV show on VH1 which answered questions about Rumors and stories about popular songs (such as did Phil Collins really see some guy not help a drowning man and base 'In the air tonite' on the experience? No). The snippet sounded quite nice and I'd love to hear the whole song.

I am NOT a Madonna fan by any stretch of the imagination but I am guilty of owning a couple of her CDs. I liked that song she did for that Sean Penn Movie (name escapes me) in the late 1980s. Oh, maybe it's called 'Live to tell.' I prefer when she sings in her natural low range but then , I have thing for alto voice. I think it's becuase my voice is high. I'm jealous or somesuch.

She's an insufferable bore for sure, but at leats she writes her own songs (when she's not cribbing from 1972 Folk songs).

well.. an old rumour circulating..

she demands song writing credits as part of her contract payments deal..

.. and for her artistic 'creative' vanity

FatB*****D Pmed me with some tips on finding the original song Ray of Light was based on and BINGO:

The song is not Seraphim but 'Sepheryn' and it can be found on the following CD:

Sepheryn: The Definitive Collection CD
Curtiss & Maldoon
Sepheryn: The Definitive Collection CD Buy it here

I think I will buy it myself since the snippet I heard of the original was lovely.

"Bore"??? She can't be toooo boring or she wouldn't be one of the most successful artists of all time. Talent, looks, intelligence, shamelessly immodest.... all the way to the bank. Who else could choose a stage name like that and back it up for thirty years?

Pardon - I meant her personal life these days and all that fake-kabbala stuff is insufferably boring - her music can't be dismissed that easily although it would please some people to try.

That old rumor about her merely tacking her name onto songs other people right isn't quite true. It's been said about everyone who is successful. Sometimes it is true as with Elvis, whose management always demanded a piece of the publishing but didn't always get it. With her, I'm inclined to believe she does write a lot of her own work which then gets very pumped up in the studio. There's something to be admired in her ability to continually turn out well-crafted Pop. As I said, I have some of her albums.

I wish I could remember what the song was - the one with the Bullfighter video - nice melody that. Maybe it's called 'Take a bow'? I liked Frozen too off the Ray of Light CD and I liked the title track. I've always liked dance music and electronica and when she dives into that, she's very good at it.

Do I think she's a wonderful singer - no.
Will her music last for ages - can't say.
Will people hum some her songs in the future years- I imagine so.

The little Madonna-wannabees such as Britney Spears are so much shallower muscially that by comparison, Madonna really does come out looking good. So no, her music is not boring.

Side note - I lived on the street leading up to her one-time home near the Hollywood sign following the 1994 Northridge Earthquake. I had to move because my house started to slide down the hill. Well, my neighbors and I used to sit out in chairs by the sidewalk at night and take bets as to which tourists trying to snap photos of her house in the middlle of the street would become Hollywood Roadkill. Now you can call THAT insufferably boring!
