Several sources give first recorded in 1929 by Bryant's Jubilee Quartet, a cylinder. Found a great reissue, though. Lost Sounds: Blacks and the Birth of the Recording Industry, 1891-1922 which gives Who Broke the Lock by Cousins and DeMoss (1898) and a clip. From the cylinder (Looks like a great CD set. With book. Important.) Maybe this item should be withdrawn temporarily pendi further research. |

Padgett Great site Abby Percy Grainger the Australian composer also collected and recorded in Lincolnshire Uk between 1905 -1908 to wax cylinder I am not sure when discs/with needles came in to fashion and the technology and mass production e.g sound horns I think were used with waxed cylinders too |
