BBC Folk Awards

The BBC have announced the nominations for their Folk Awards. See here: Nominations

After last year's recognition of dance band category it seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth this year! As someone who primarily loves dance tunes and the enthusiastic response last year's voting got I bitterly disappointed. The cynic in me is saying that it's got dropped by the BBC as last year's votes weren't Celtic enough: "Oh my God! We can't have English music dominating the voting for this award, let's quietly drop it!".

Apart from that they're all well worthy of nominations in my mind (at least) the Horizon Award for 'newcomers' seems to be for 'newcomers' this year!

And have I heard right that the awards show won't be shown on BBC TV (not even BBC4) probably get effing Jazz or C&W instead.

Darren

There is a catergory where listeners can vote in for the "most influential" album on Mr Hardings' website at the BBC. I've got mine in already.

Me too (I forgot to add that bit in). I voted for Below the Salt - Steeleye Span as that's the album that got me into folk music.

Most of the same old cronies, when will Mike and/or his producers look at a wider set of performers

Seth Lakeman gets my vote!
Kitty Jay is one of the best albums I've heard for a long time! (IMHO of course!)

I hoped Rachel Unthank and the Winterset would get a Horizon Award nomination and am disappointed they didn't.
Still, hopefully the artist I think should rightfully win, will win, this year - and it not, as has happened before more than once, they will have to be nominated for a second year running.....
