Adding lyrics and Music

To add lyrics I've noted that there are threads titled "LYR&MUS ADD." To add lyrics should I just just post to a similar type of message?

I'll play around with the MidiTXT stuff and see what happens!

Sounds pretty simple - is that it?

Lesley,

you can just add a song to any thread that it fits in, but the prefered way here is to take the "Create a new thread" link (on the Forum title page) and choose a very informative title like "ADD: A tail of a whale" and go on typing (using <br> as command for the line breaks). It's as easy as it looks. Then the song (lyrics and/or tune) can be refound by anybody using the Forum Search option (except, e.g. if they look for "a tale of a whale").
As for the Digital tradition database, you will find the song you contributed after one of the two yearly up-dates. This might be at best half a year after the posting but can take even more than two years. We are looking forward to your contributions.

cheers Wolfgang

Hi, Lesley - I think that before you post a song, it's best to do a forum search and database search to see if the song has already been posted. If there's a thread already ready started on that song, put the new information in that thread, rather than starting an "add" thread. Dick Greenhaus is pretty adept at harvesting lyrics and tunes for the database, as long as the title of the song is in the thread title. Sometimes, people start new threads without checking, and then it's hard to find all the information on a song. I think we have about ten threads on "What Did Delaware, Boys?"
So, think twice before you start a new thread.

Is it o.k. to e-mail them to Dick and let him decide? (What songs to add.)

Glad you reminded me Joe. I often do find information in old threads that aren't in DT yet. I'll make sure to check first.

Now I have to go check out "What Did Delaware, Boys?"...

Well, Reta, you can e-mail lyrics direct to Dick if you'd like - but we like to see 'em here, too. Dick claims to be monitoring the 'Cat like a hungry hawk, pouncing down on tasty lyrics the moment they're posted. If you post them here, you have just as good a chance of getting lyrics included in the Digital Tradition database. Dick and Susan do exercise some editorial discretion, and the fiftieth variation of "Happy Birthday to You" might not make it into the database (then again, maybe it would....).
