I don't know the title, nor the singer's name. It was a guy. However, I do remember some words: "Sail, sail, white schooner sail... through the waters of the West Indies" and then there was something about a "Mary". That's all I can remember. Can someone tell me the title of this song? And the name of the singer? Thanks. Luke |

Sleek and schooner seems to be a common word combination. You'll have to do a little free association of some sort to come up with as many distinctive word combinations as possible. Adding "Mary" and "West Indies" doesn't do any better. Maybe you'll get lucky and someone will know it already without the Internet pyrotechnics. :) SRS |

Later the recorder broke and I wasn`t able to save my old tapes before. So I lost that song - but only physically ... never in my mind. It took me over 30 years to find this song again and finally I was succesful. The name of the Band is "The Merrymen" and the song's name is "Sail, sail". You can find it here: http://www.crsmusic.com/album_details.cfm?AlbumID=42&CategoryID=24 Roland |

Oh, Mary, Mary, tell me how long Since I went away. Mary, Mary, if you only knew How I prayed for this day! Well, we left the harbor this mornin'. Captain said to me: "Swing the rudder; we goin' south Back to the arms of Mary." CHORUS: Sail, sail, white schooner, sail Into the arms of the southeast breeze. Sail, sail, white schooner, sail Through the waters of the West Indies, Back to Mary, back to Mary. 2. I met a girl down in Trinidad First day that we came: Long black hair down to she waist. Annabella was her name; But when my heart goes a-flutter Like a wounded dove, Annabella may be in my arms, But it's Mary I'm thinkin' of. CHORUS 3. We rise and we fall with the ocean wave, Schooner deck gettin' hot. We gonna be home before it's dark. Lord, what a breeze we got! As we swing down the coast of Venezuela, Look how we makin' foam. The schooner she pullin' up the canvas sail. She glad 'cause we goin' home, Back to Mary. CHORUS |
