17 Jan 99 - 12:50 PM (#54536) Subject: Lyr/Tune Add: LAND OF THE OLD AND GREY From: Kernow John I seem to be doing something wrong when I post tunes using Alan of Oz's Miditext. The code below is from a Noteworthy Midi file. The Midi part translates back perfectly but the ABC doesn't. I have added the ABC file as it should look. The value of the first rest has been added to the value of the first note. Ties across bars have been placed after the bar line which ABC interprets as 2 separate notes. And the value of the last note comes out as 15/2. ABC2Win comes up with errors when I try to draw the tune and Abc2mus will play the tune but wrongly ie with no rests and with tied notes played as separate notes. What am I doing wrong please? MIDI file: greyold.mid Timebase: 192 Name: LAND OF THE OLD AND GREY This program is worth the effort of learning it. To download the March 10 MIDItext 98 software and get instructions on how to use it click here ABC format: X:1

Alan is probably the best person to help with the fine points of his program, but if you would care to email the original midi file, I'd be happy to have a look at it.

19 Jan 99 - 01:37 PM (#54753) Subject: RE: help with ABC please plus song added From: Joe Offer Hi, John and BAZ - MIDITXT seems to have problems producing concise ABC's from Noteworthy MIDI files. Alan says the Noteworthy MIDI files are just a bit peculiar. The ABC files that MIDITXT produces from Noteworthy MIDIs will sound about right, but you won't be able to generate proper notation from them. since it's just with Noteworthy files, it's probably better just to put up with it until Max can get us the capability to post MIDI files directly. The MIDITXT output from Noteworthy MIDI files produces a perfect MIDI when decoded - it's just the ABC part that is affected by this quirk. -Joe Offer- |
