11 Dec 05 - 09:04 PM (#1625336) Subject: BS: George Bush Killed My Rose Bush From: Jerry Rasmussen I believe that George W. is the worst American president ever, but he isn't personally responsible for every catastrophe that happens. No one is that powerful. Still... I'm wondering who killed my rose bush... Jerry |

11 Dec 05 - 10:05 PM (#1625362) Subject: RE: BS: George Bush Killed My Rose Bush From: jimmyt I just got off the phone with a dear old friend who has been a great influence on my life. He and I agree on most everything about music, we agree that Wisconsin is a darn good place to be from, we agree on the fact that Mudcat is, by and large, a great bunch of folks, and we both have wives that we probably don't deserve. Now I come to find out that George W Bush probably killed Jerry's Rose bush? OK, That's it! I have had enough of his insanity! No one crosses Jerry Rasmussen and gets off light with me! Now I just have to find a Democratic candidate I can throw my support behind! Joe Lieberman, where are you when I need you! Have a Merry CHristmas, Jerry and RUth,and I hope to get up to see you soon. |

12 Dec 05 - 08:52 AM (#1625559) Subject: RE: BS: George Bush Killed My Rose Bush From: wysiwyg I have seen it said that some of the anti-US/anti-Bush stuff from UKers is about their fear that Blair is sure to copy Bush policy/actions. I'd just like to know-- if this is the case, why waste even a minute's thought on Bush-sniping, when their time, energy, and persuasive writing are therefore so urgently needed in their own country's political arena? Why bash Bush instead of out-doing US voters? SHOW me what's wrong with Blair and you might win an ally. I can't see it through the fog of cultural difference, my lack of grasp on UK history, and the pervasive anti-US tone. Geoff the Duck painted a clear picture for me once, in about 5 minutes' conversation, about the economic scene. I'd like to understand more, but at Mudcat, so far all I can hear is hatred toward us. In fact I hear that more loudly than I hear Islamic hatred of the west, in terms of daily life. ~S~ |
12 Dec 05 - 09:48 AM (#1625594) Subject: RE: BS: George Bush Killed My Rose Bush From: GUEST,A While both the UK and the US have their own attributes, I am getting the feeling that some of the UK'ers as well as Canadians are somewhat envious. Might be, I know that I would not want to move out of the US with only those two choices. I think the best defense against the negative US comments I read in this place is 'no defense'. It is a waste of time and really not necessary. |

12 Dec 05 - 10:12 AM (#1625612) Subject: RE: BS: George Bush Killed My Rose Bush From: Jerry Rasmussen Lest this thread wander too far into UKer's criticism of Us'ers, my only point is that while I find George W. a dangerous man, I think it's a little too easy to knee-jerk blame everything on him. If he is solely responsible for the sorry state the US is in, then in a couple of years when he is no longer President, everything should be hunky-dory. Right? If we put all of our energy into laying the blame on someone else, we lose track of our own responsiblities. As a Democrat, I believe that Bush is President because the Democrats ran on an "Anyone But Bush" ticket, were wishy washy and so focused on criticizing Bush that they forgot that you get elected because you stand for something, not just against something. If the folks wot hollers and squeals constantly don't start energizing and putting forth strong, well-thought out alternatives for this country, we'll get a Bush-lite, next time around. I think UKers have every right to bash Bush and what the United States is becoming because we are such a great power that everything that we do has a global impact. George W. is everybody's business because his tomfoolery effects everybody. I've heard of the Scorched Earth policy. I've heard about someone speaking from a burning bush. But my little rose bush? Why iz everrbody aways picking on me (rose bush) Jerry |

12 Dec 05 - 04:57 PM (#1625886) Subject: RE: BS: George Bush Killed My Rose Bush From: GUEST,A Canadian... Us? Jealous? No. "Anxious" is the word. Nervous. Worried. Concerned. The people we are jealous of, generally speaking, are those who live in tropical places, places with no snow and palm trees. I realize there are a few places sort of like that in the USA, but it's not what immediately comes to mind. |
12 Dec 05 - 05:05 PM (#1625898) Subject: RE: BS: George Bush Killed My Rose Bush From: LilyFestre I find it interesting how many folks here at Mudcat seem to think that they can speak for the "We." People in neighborhoods have vastly different opinions of what is going on in the world, who likes who and why or vice versa. How can you possibly speak for an entire nation? Speak for yourself, not the volumes. That kind of generalization says absolutely nothing because YOU, of course, CANNOT speak for the multitudes and what they fear, are concerned over, etc. because you simply can't KNOW that. Michelle |

12 Dec 05 - 09:59 PM (#1626085) Subject: RE: BS: George Bush Killed My Rose Bush From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Point taken about the LibDems, but in view of the fact that they never tell us what their policies are, it's not too surprising that we don't quite knnow where they fit in the political spectrum. The others are right of centre, so socialists don't have realistic representation. Moderately right wing Tories are also deprived of represemtation. I sometimes feel that I am seeing double with Blair and Cameron trying to repeal the laws of physics, and occupy the same space. On the subject of whether Brits like Americans, I think, on the whole, they do. What they detest is the current US administration, which our own home grown A***hole, is so keen to copy. I feel that if GW continues to head toward the cliff edge at warp factor six, Toady will play the obedient lemming, and take us right off the edge as well. I have said elsewhere that I get on well with Americans, and as individuals they seem pretty much the same as us, apart from a noticeable tendency to mangle the Queen's English (Grins broadly). 14 Dec 05 - 02:26 PM (#1627341) Subject: RE: BS: George Bush Killed My Rose Bush From: Barry Finn I don't think anyone here or elsewhere hates us Americans. It's what our country does that is a cause for dislike & if we as individual Americans support our countries policies that are seen by others as a harmful or disgraceful or deterrmental or,,,,then it's only natural for that dislike to pass on. On the other hand if Blair has a urinary track infection or the Aussie or Canadian PM's got nose bleeds it's not big ot a deal to the world, they'll get over it. But if Bush sneezes St. Peter's may crumble, China great dam project may burst, Oceania may sink, the ice caps may melt. Therefore every person in the world is or should be concerned about any move Bush or any future American President may make & have right to voice there opinion too. When the world trusts us enough to start doing the right thing by everyone then maybe we'll feel as if we are at least able to ask others to start us out on a level playing field again. God, just take a look at the Montreal Summit (climate change) 130 countries & we told them all to fuck off while contrubite 25% to this world problem. I wouldn't blame a lot of other nations if they declared war on us. Barry |
